Up and Away on the Flying Trapeze

I never imagined I would be able to do flying trapeze. I wasn't even aware there's a rig here in the metro until recently. If I wasn't doing pilates, baka hindi ko kinaya ito, hehehe. But I did suspension pilates, and I know I can hang and do inversions, so I literally took the leap and went for it.  Together with my pilates buddies and our kids, we booked a private class last week and had a nerve-wracking and exhilarating experience.

Drink Milk and Run...for Fun and Fitness

It's every parent's desire for their children to be fit and healthy, in mind and body. And while we take care of our family's wellness, we also need to be conscious of our own health. We try to find opportunities to have an active lifestyle, and prepare nutritious meals at the same time. One of the more exciting family activities to participate in is the annual Alaska Milk Day, which recently hosted a simultaneous four-city fun run across the country last June 11.

Fun Friday: The Artsy and The Sporty

Third Friday of the month:  School Events

This is a proud-mommy-moment kind of post. I know I don't say it enough. Oftentimes, I just say "good job" or "you did great", but rarely do I say "I'm so proud of you" whenever they accomplish something significant. Sometimes, I share their works or activities on my IG and FB. Kaya eto na lang ang short tribute ko to show how proud I am with my two highly spirited kids. Both recently had their respective culminating events -- one in the arts and the other in sports.

Join the #SugodManny Movement for Pacquiao-Mayweather Fight

I am not a boxing fan. My lolo was. Back in the 80s, I see him watching boxing matches on TV. I never really got interested in this sport coz I feel it's just too violent. But ever since Manny Pacquiao became popular, I learned to appreciate it just a bit, and admired the man. I know that every Filipino is rooting for him in each match, and I'm pretty sure my lolo would be the first to grab a front row seat if he were still here with us.

This is Manny's biggest fight and even if I'm not a big fan of boxing, my family and I admire Manny Pacquiao. The whole country is behind Manny!

If you follow me, @mymomfriday on Instagram, you might have seen my MomFridayVideogram showing our "knockout moves" which I posted last week. :)  Here's a screen grab.
Our knockout moves on video, click to view.

I joined the movement initiated by Smart to unite everyone in supporting our pambansang kamao by posting photos or videos and tag #SugodManny.

Join me and rest of the country on social media to rally behind Manny Pacquiao on his upcoming fight this May 2 in Las Vegas.  Use #SugodManny and post your own knockout move -- it can be funny, fierce, cute, it doesn't have to be a boxing move.

I still don't know where we'll be watching the fight Usually, we watch his fights at home, but for sure there will be a lot of venues with pay-per-view offers. There's also mobile video streaming.

If you want a front row seat for the May 2 event but can't go to Las Vegas like us, then look no further -- SMART is offering LIVE and commercial‐free video streaming of the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight through the Viewstream app on your mobile device for PhP499 only!

Fun Friday: Swimming Beyond Summer

Third Friday of the month:  Recreation / Sports

A week before the culminating event for her swimming class in P.E., the girl has been having anxiety attacks, feeling tense and scared, and in no mood to attend their swim meet. She said she doesn't want to race. After 10 sessions of basic swimming lessons with her classmates, I'm proud that my girl can now "survive" in the water and confidently swim on her own.  Well, at least up to 3 meters! =)

Fun Friday: Ice Skating at SM Megamall

Third Friday of the month:  Leisure and Recreation / Hobby / Sport

Have you been to the new ice skating rink at SM Megamall? It's bigger (I think) and better than before! I brought my girl yesterday since she was curious and fascinated with ice skating for quite some time now.  She clearly had a blast with her classmates that she's now bugging me to schedule a few hours on the ice again.

Fun Friday: Arts and Sports for Summer

Third Friday of the month:  Recreation / Art / Sports

It's officially summer break - well, at least for my boy.  My girl still has a culminating program and moving-up day on Tuesday.  But all of us are already psyched for vacation time, which means staying up and waking up a little later that usual, no more homework, more play time, lazy days at home, and a chance to learn a new skill, a new sport, or dabble in arts and crafts.

Personally, I'm not keen on sending my children to take academic enrichment programs, summer break or not.  They do academics during the school year already and I want our vacation (yes, it's ours 'coz I take a break from tutoring too) to be free from "studying".  I prefer them to explore and enjoy the arts, learn a musical instrument or sport/s instead, and attend classes up to 3x/week only.  I simply want them to have fun, relax, de-stress, and forget about schooling, at least during the break.  But that's just us.  Some families can make it work for them, having a packed week and still have time to travel and relax.  That's not bad at all.  To each his own.

Fun Friday: Going Black in Taekwondo

Third Friday of the month:  Sports / Hobbies

2010: "My Nintendo DSi addict son got his yellow belt in taekwondo yesterday and said... Daddy, I leveled up!" This was the Facebook shout-out of my husband on May 30, 2010 after the boy got his first colored belt from his taekwondo summer class. Two years later, he got his Black!
Personalized belt - Black/Red for his age group, below 15 years old

Techni-Ice Reusable Hot and Cold/Ice Pack

Traditional ice pack, ice wrap, gel ice pack, hot and cold gel packs, we have them all. Having very active kids in the house, getting bumps and bruises of all sizes are inevitable, so ice packs remain the most used tool for first aid, aside from plaster strips!

Mom-Finds: Multi-way HeadWare

Last Friday of the month:  Mom-finds / Raves, Accessory

Our home is still brimming with new and wonderful things we received over the holidays, with several more items being sent over until after the new year.  Among the gifts were these cool, multi-purpose accessories that the kids and I have enjoyed using.

When the package arrived with three distinct designs, the boy and the girl quickly grabbed and "owned" one for themselves --  not knowing what it actually is, hahaha!  The colors just caught their eye and so they couldn't wait for me to open it.

Fun Friday: Taekwondo Classes for Kids

Third Friday of the month:  Sports / Recreation

Taekwondo (Korean) - tae means "to strike or break with foot"; kwon means "to strike or break with fist"; and do means "way," "method," or "art." Thus, taekwondo may be loosely translated as "the art of the foot and fist" or "the art of kicking and punching." Taekwondo is a Korean martial art and the national sport of South Korea. - wikipedia
