Hydrate Inside and Out for Healthy Skin

Over the past couple of years, I've added a few steps to my very basic skin care regimen, kasi tumatanda nako, hehe. Seriously, after I hit the 40 mark, my skin drastically became drier and more prone to irritation, and worse, occasional eczema flare-ups which I never experienced in my youth. Top priority is really to keep my skin hydrated everyday. Aside from drinking more water than I'm used to, I also go with my trusted skin care brands na hiyang talaga ako. So, let me share what these #WaterfulSkincare and #PurifiedByNature brands are, plus some practical tips that can help us achieve healthy beautiful skin.

My Aryana Experience: Diamond Peel and Diode Laser Hair Removal

I've always been very low maintenance when it comes to skin care and makeup. But age is catching up and bare minimum just doesn't cut it anymore. Medyo late in the game na nga ako when it comes to beauty treatments. I've tried some special skin and facial treatments in recent years that did wonders to my age-related skin problems and hair removal needs, but I failed to maintain.

The good news for me was when Aryana International Aesthetic Center, a beauty and wellness center, opened in my neighborhood a few months ago. I had the opportunity to be treated to a customized program that fit my needs. I highly recommend this to those who also seek safe, effective, yet fuss-free skin care and hair removal treatments like me.

Benefits of Red Light Collagen Therapy by Suaviss

If you Google what the benefits of collagen are, you will learn that aside from improving the health and appearance of our skin, collagen also helps strengthen hair, nails and teeth, reduces joint pains and degeneration, and even boosts metabolism. Collagen is the main structural protein in the human body that holds our cells together. Basically, it promotes skin elasticity which helps reduce signs of aging. I'm in my 40s now and I really felt the changes on my skin over the past few years. Our body's collagen decreases as we grow older, and we can't escape that fact. This is where Beauty Lab Whitening can help.

Mom-Finds: SIMPLE Face Care Micellar Water and Makeup Remover

Last Friday of the month: Beauty / Skin Care

I have a very basic, fuss-free skin care regimen. The simpler the better. If you've been a long time follower of my blog, you would know that I just stick with the bare essentials when it comes to skin care and makeup products. As I hit 40, I've noticed my skin has become drier and more sensitive. While I tried different brands to find the right combination for my current skin condition, I still maintain a 3-step approach to skin care which consists of a soap-free cleanser, exfoliant, moisturizer. I am still not consistent with applying eye cream though.  Most recently, I added this amazing micellar water to my regimen.

Mom-Finds: Kuu Konjac Sponge

Last Friday of the month:  Finds and Faves / Beauty / Shopping

Let's have some skin talk today. Well, you know I'm not that into beauty products so I have very limited knowledge of what's out there.  I tend to stick with my tried-and-tested brands, but over the past year, my skin has been playing tricks on me. I can't deny it -- my age is the main culprit.  I've been more conscious about my skin since I hit 40 so I often find myself asking friends about the products that worked for them. Last summer, I chanced upon Kuu Konjac facial sponge online - I don't think it's something new in the market but it's new for me, so I immediately asked a few friends if they've heard about it.  I can't even pronounce the name right. Obviously, I got good feedback and quickly ordered two variants to try.

My 3 Things: Facial Care

#my3things #facecare

When it comes down to the bare essentials for my face, I stick with these three.  I have other cleansing and moisturizing products I rotate, but it can't get any more basic than this.  Here are my 3 things for basic facial care.

  1. Physiogel Cleanser - Since I started have super dry skin the past few years, I've stuck with this mild, hypoallergenic cleanser recommended by the derma and many of my friends. I use this twice a day and I was really glad they came out with a pump bottle!  This soap-free formula is gentle even for babies and can be wiped away with a cotton pad or facial tissue, no need to rinse with water.  (I still prefer to wash it away with water though, heehee.)
  2. Cure Natural Aqua Gel - Click on the name and you'll see how I raved about this water-based exfoliant from Japan.  It's my twice-weekly skin care habit, and I'd use it everyday if it was recommended! My skin just feels cleaner, smoother, and clearer after using Cure.
  3. Physiogel Intensive Cream - Aside from different anti-aging creams, I use this all-around face cream for day and night since it's not heavy.  It's especially effective on very dry spots around the face so I feel moisturized instantly.
Until I can find a better anti-aging skin care system, I'm sticking with the basics.  What's yours? #my3things #facialcare

Blanca De China Lifestyle Spa in San Juan

Fresh, clean, cozy, immaculate - those words came to mind as soon as I stepped into Blanca De China.  It's the newest lifestyle spa that opened in a quiet neighborhood in my lovely little city.
(Photo from Blanca De China Facebook Page)

Blanca de China offers a welcome respite for busy bodies like me.  The charming spa draws you in and instantly makes you feel relaxed in their whitewashed, shabby-chic interiors.  That's Patty, having her pedicure at the über chic and cozy lounge area while I ended my treatment upstairs.  Scroll down for a mini-tour of the spa.

Date with Mom: Pevonia Caviar Facial at The Spa

Freestyle Friday: Moms / Wellness

The month of May is extra special for this blog -- Mother's Day celebration and My Mom-Friday's anniversary month. This month happens to have 5 Fridays, so I get a Freestyle Friday post again and you know what that means.

For today, I'm sharing my date with my mother, who celebrated her birthday yesterday.  When I was invited by Jenny of Pevonia Botanica Philippines to try their caviar facial with a friend at the The Spa, I immediately thought of bringing my mom for a belated Mother's Day and birthday treat.  We never had a facial together before, so this is our chance to be pampered!

Family Friday: Me and My Vanity

Second Friday of the month:  Motherhood / Beauty / Wellness

Me and my vanity.
If I'm going to rate my level of vanity from 1 to 10, I'd say I'm a 6.  I guess I'm really not that vain, and people who know me can attest to that.  But the words rhyme, and they definitely sound better than "Me and My Aging Skin", don't you agree?! =)  Hence, the title.  So, what am I driving at?  I am getting old! Waaahhhh...

This is me, today - lines, pores, blemishes and dark circles in full glory. No make-up, no image filter, no effects nor retouching.  But don't get me wrong -- I am quite pleased with how this shot came out since it's been two weeks after my facial treatments yet no flaking or visible dryness.  Still, I wouldn't dare plaster an enlarged close-up shot of my bare face here.  Half would suffice. :p

Family Friday: A Mom's Holiday Stress-Busters

Second Friday of the month:  Motherhood / Women's health

Are you feeling the Christmas rush? I do. As of this writing, I'm not even half way done with my gift shopping -- I used to be done by mid-November! Anyhow, I am dedicating this post to all the hardworking bodies out there who are feeling the pressure and stress while preparing for the holidays.

This goes out to the wives and moms who decorate the home, prepare the meals, attend school programs, host parties, buy, and wrap all the presents! Whew! Are you feeling it now? =)

Here are a few of my stress-busting guilty pleasures, from head to toe:

FACIAL
Have a good cleansing facial.
I can't recall the last time I underwent a facial treatment.  I was still a single working girl then (which was eons ago).  Yesterday, I finally had one.
(Images above from Dermalogica website)
This was a complimentary facial at Dermalogica -- part of the perks from the Longchamp Citi-Rustan's credit card promo I availed last year.  Good thing I found the voucher before it expires next week, so I decided that it's now or never. I even got lots of samplers after the treatment!  Try their Classical Facial for only PhP900!
Basic facial with Face Mapping at Dermalogica, Shangri-la Mall - call (632) 637-1714

BODY MASSAGE
De-stress with a relaxing full body massage.
My most recent pampering was a prize I won from the promo of Pevonia Botanica and Miss-match.com!  Am I lucky or what!?  A few weeks ago, my friend and I were treated to a Crystalline Skin Treatment at The Spa -- full body scrub and Swedish massage that was completely invigorating!
Whether it's Thai, aromatherapy, Swedish or Shiatsu, a head-to-toe massage is always a winner.
At The Spa, ready for a full body scrub and massage

FOOT / NAIL SPA
Healthy feet, healthy body.
Our feet bears all the body's weight and features reflex zones connected to our bodies. I highly recommend getting a foot massage and manicure/pedicure or a rejuvenating foot reflexology. Doing this not only benefits our overall health, but also prettifies our feet when finished with a really nice polish!
Preparing for our foot reflexology treatment at The Relex Zone
Call for home service, go to your favorite salon or foot treatment center to give those tired feet and legs a respite.
Finishing off my food scrub with a pedicure from Cozy Nail Lounge

DINE WITH FRIENDS
Feed the mind...and body.
Aside from Sunday family lunches at my mother's house, what I look forward to every month is my dinner with my girl friends, and impromptu meet-ups with online gal pals.
Nothing beats a good meal with great conversations, in the company of wonderful friends!
Cheers!

How do you unwind and relax after work (and gift shopping!)?
What do you do to de-stress during the holiday season?

One Step to Flawless with Kanebo's Freshel BB Cream

Do you know what a BB cream is? Have you used one?
I've heard about this "secret of Korean actresses" last year but just did not care enough to even ask about it nor look it up. If you've been following my blog, you know I'm just not that into beauty stuff.

Image screen capture from www.kanebo.sg

I've been writing about products that I really like and use, but only a handful on cosmetics.  With that, I am happy to add one more to the short list with Kanebo's Freshel White C Mineral BB Cream.
SRP @ Php 960; in Natural Beige and Medium Beige shades

This is my first time to use a BB cream = Blemish Balm (from Wikipedia)and it's all because of Mrs. Martinez' flawless look and her raves about Kanebo products.  Since I'm all for quick and simple applications, I think this one might just work well for me.  At that time, the product was out of stock from the outlets I frequent.  Luckily, I know a family member of the local distributor so I was able to order for myself and for our blogger friends Rowena and Noemi who also wanted to try this particular BB cream.

FRESHEL WHITE C MINERAL BB CREAM, 50g
What it does:
  • Works as "essence, emulsion, cream, sunscreen, and light makeup base"
  • Formulated with adhesive collagen for moisturizing effect; fruit acid mixture and citrus peel extracts for exfoliating and moisturizing care
  • Non-greasy cream provides UV protection (SPF 41) and covers dark spots/blemishes
  • Easily smoothes into skin for a quick matte finish
Pea-sized amount for medium coverage of my entire face
I got the Natural Beige shade -- good for typical fair-skinned Asians with yellow undertones. If you are kayumanggi, have a light tan or brown-skinned, the Medium shade would be better.  Best if you test the shade at any Kanebo counters before buying.

Since it's an all-in-one skin cream and makeup base by Japan's top beauty brand, I know it's gonna be worth it.  As soon as I received my silver tube, I used it the following morning on a clean face and I'm ready to go.
  1. Squeezed pea-sized amount and quickly dotted my face concentrating on my dark circles around the eyes, blemish spots, and a pimple mark on the left cheek
  2. Cream was super fine and thick which guarantees a nice medium to full coverage, depending on amount you use
  3. With my fingertips, I spread cream around my face --  I noticed it dries up fast so my first application was a bit uneven, hahaha (the mark of a true BB cream virgin!)
  4. Face appeared to be slightly lighter that my normal skin tone with matte finish after application
  5. Shade neutralized once it has set several minutes after, with a dewy-moist effect
  6. Very good coverage, evened out my skin tone, and lightly concealed dark circles and spots
LEFT
Before                                                   After

RIGHT
Before                                                   After

Still visible are:  mole (right), chicken pock mark below the eye (right), and spider veins which will forever map my face. Though I never intended to completely mask over them since I still wanted to look as natural as possible. There was enough coverage over my problem spots.

I was very satisfied with how it felt and looked on my skin, and it did not feel heavy as I thought it would. This is an un-retouched headshot.  A smooth, even matte finish with medium to full coverage.

My face remained generally "matte" during the day and simply blotted away oily spots.  I only touched up once under my eyes with face powder.  The following day, I tried to apply a very small amount of regular moisturizer before the BB cream and the application was smoother for me this time. :)

Freshel White C Mineral BB Cream + lash curler + tinted lip balm = I'm all set to go!
This is an amazing product. No wonder BB creams are all the rage.  I highly recommend this especially to women on-the-go, for mothers like me who want a quick and simple makeup routine that will last the day, no frills, all-in-one product with sun screen.

Another variant is Freshel Moist Lift BB Cream, with hyaluronic acid.  Choose the one that would suit your skin's needs.

Family Friday: Mommy 'Me Time'

Second Friday of the month:  Motherhood

I had several things planned for myself as I was counting down towards my natal day this year. That was Wednesday and I was only able to tick off one 'to do' from my very short list.

I've been meaning to ask my girl friends what their favorite past time is, or rather, what they usually plan for themselves on their alone time, away from the stress of work and demands of family life.  Everyone deserves a "me time", especially moms! I never got the chance to ask them.

Honestly, I have nothing drafted for today's Family Friday post. I can't believe I did not prepare anything about kids and family for today.  And then I thought:  why not post some of the things that moms like me would love to do for ourselves but can't find the time? It's the most convenient reason, "no time", but it's actually the truth. Ok, I'm blabbering...

This is my realistic checklist of things I wanted to indulge in before my birthday month is over.

My Birthday Me-Time List:
X  1. Hair Conditioning Treatment - availed of Akira Hair & Make-up Studio promo coupon from Awesome Deal @ P960!
?   2. Book full body massage at The Spa - GC gift from an event
?   3. Schedule appointment for Obagi Diamond Peel - won a GC from Animetric's World
?   4. Schedule Foot Spa & Pedi - from my friendly neighborhood salon

As you can see, most are for my "wellness and beautification project", heehee.  I just thought I owe it to myself to get pampered with these treats for my birthday this year since I feeeel soooo oooold now!

I'm not physically fit, I get aches and pains all over from time to time, I feel sluggish during the day, I look like a raccoon most days, and I am perpetually underweight.  I need a change. I need a lift. I need some glow. Okay that last one is a stretch...hehehe.

I have never tried #1 & #3, ever!  And I can't recall when was the last time I enjoyed a #2 and a #4. It was that long. I'm excited already!

As the saying goes, you have to love yourself first before you can give love to others. Mothers in particular, devote much of their time thinking about and doing things for their husbands, children, home, work, that many tend to forget how to take care of themselves and allow some "me time" to recharge.

With the support from family members, we really have to find the time to just do it. Aside from these pampering treatments above, there are many simple yet equally therapeutic ways to relax and rejuvenate our mind, body, and spirit.

Spend some quiet time alone:
  • read a good book
  • pray and read the bible
  • take a long soothing bath
  • take a nap
Entertain yourself:
  • watch a good home movie
  • write / blog
  • play a musical instrument
  • shop, shop, shop
Satisfy your cravings:
  • cook / bake (many find working in the kitchen therapeutic)
  • eat to your heart's delight

If you're wondering about my hair treatment, I really wanted to wait a week of washing and drying my hair on my own before I can give you feedback. I can safely say that my hair is still soft and healthy-looking.  It does not have that silky-shine quality to it but the Yuko Yamashita Hair Treatment worked well on improving the texture of my dry hair. I am maintaining it with the Yuko leave-on conditioning spray which I bought from the salon.  Buying deals from Awesome.ph was such a breeze so I'll be looking out for future offers.

So I'm giving myself 2 more weeks to be pampered and do the last three on my list. Tick-tock-tick-tock!

Go take a break mommies, you deserve it! How would you spend your alone time?
