Only Good Hair Days with Himawari
It's rainy season once again so expect humidity to be off the charts, thus, frizzy hair!!! Even my skin feels different in this weather so I take extra care. As much as I want to wear my hair down more often, I don't have enough patience to give too much attention to it. I know that having beautiful and healthy hair always gives a good impression. That is why I always try to keep my hair neat and in place. But my naturally buhaghag hair requires some time and effort to style. Even on a good hair day, my laziness kicks in and I end up with a ponytail just to keep hair away from my face and not have to think about it the whole day. One brand I can depend on to tame my pouffy thick hair without blow-dryng is HIMAWARI. I just brush and air-dry, then give it a few passes with my hair straightening iron and I’m good to go.

Blushing with K-Palette Lasting Cheek Tint
When it comes to makeup, I've always stuck with the bare essentials. I can live on just face powder, and lip color. It was only two years ago that I've come to appreciate eyebrow pencils and liners. I got hooked on K-Palette Lasting 2-way Eyebrow Pens, and eventually had eyebrow microblading from Skin House Beauty and Laser Clinic. Mascara, eyeliners, and blush powder are reserved for events and special occasions. With blushers, my skin tend to feel drier when I use them. Then a few weeks ago, I was able to try for the first time the cream cheek tints from K-Palette. I'm in love!

Tokyo Winter Holiday, part 2: Tsukiji - Akihabara - Ikebukuro
When we were planning our trip to Tokyo late last year, one of the must-see places I included in our itinerary is the famous Tsukiji Fish Market. My foodie brother and I really wanted to visit the market and sample the freshest seafood we can try, even if we had to drag the kids there early in the morning.

Tokyo Eats, Good Eats
Ah, Japan... So many good food, so little time!
That's how I feel to this day. I was a bit frustrated that I wasn't able to visit some of the recommended dining places in Tokyo, like Nabezo shabu-shabu, rotating sushi restos, and some wagyu beef eateries that abound. Buti nga nakapag-Ichiran kami! =) There was just not enough time and we have five kids with us who have different food preferences. Thank goodness there's the familiar Mc Donald's, 7-11, and Yoshinoya for their quick take-out meals.

Mom-Finds: Himawari Hair Care from Japan
Last Friday of the month: Shopping / Beauty
I may not be a beauty blogger, but whenever I discover a really good product that works for my skin and hair, I'd be more than happy to share my new finds with you. You see, having thick, slightly wavy and "buhaghag" hair (meaning hindi siya smooth and tame, medyo puffy if I just let it dry on it's own), I can never go out while my hair is still wet, or just let my hair down without a proper blow-dry. In short, I don't need volumizing products. Kaya I'm always in a ponytail most days. When I got invited to a blow-out treat last week, that's when I discovered this Japanese brand, Himawari.

Fun Friday: Muzip Earphones GIVEAWAY
Third Friday of the month: Recreation / Raffle
We just celebrated Chinese New Year yesterday, and I want to start the year of the Wooden Sheep with a treat. I'm hosting a giveaway courtesy of MUZIP earphones from Japan! First of all, let me tell you that I was not able to use the earphones long enough because the boy and the girl were already fighting over it the moment I showed them my gift. Read more and see what I have in store for you. It's pretty cool!
"MUZIP Zipper Earphones is a leading brand of personal audio accessories from Japan.
MUZIP earphones boast of high quality in-ear speakers with advanced noise-reduction technology for today’s discerning music aficionado and video gaming enthusiasts."
![]() |
| SRP : PhP 2,699 (Introductory price = P1,999) |
It's really cute and very cool! My girl got first dibs and claimed it as hers. We got this bright blue MUZIP earphones from the local distributor. After opening the pack, we chose the right size of ear bud for her. MUZIP conveniently comes with 4 different ear bud sizes. It also came with a plastic clip, but it broke as soon as we tried to attach it. Well, it didn't really matter coz it's just an extra add-on feature that we can do without.
My husband and kids are the ones who often use earphones when using their gadgets, whether we're at home or traveling. They each have basic earphones, which came free with when we bought our phones and tablets. It especially comes in handy when they use their gadgets all at the same time. I dread the noise pollution in our room every night once they start playing their videos, games, or shows!
MUZIP earphones feature the best of Japanese ingenuity with it's simple yet functional design.
What we like about MUZIP:
- Patented zipper-type cord design makes it tangle-free, easy to use and store
- Zipper head slides smoothly, quick and easy to lengthen or shorten the slack of the cord
- Light and durable, made with high-grade plastic and military grade fibers running through the cord
- Superior sound quality in-ear speakers with noise isolation, professional quality, and great for gamers like my kids
- Built-in microphone allows clear and static-free phone conversations and quality voice recording
- Comfort-fitting angled ear bud shape
- 4 sizes of in-ear buds -- fits kids and adults
- Compatible with almost all types of smartphones and tablets like iPhone, iPad, Samsung - with 3.5 mm media jack
- Comes in 9 fun colors: Pastel Green, Emerald Green, Yellow, Orange, Purple, Pink, Blue, Paste Blue, Red
So here's how they use the MUZIP earphones -- for iPad or laptop. Nakikihiram na lang si kuya minsan from the girl since it's officially hers na. When using earphones, just be sure to have clean ears before you put them on! Good thing, our MUZIP has 4 pairs of removable ear buds. =)
Available at selected ePhone branches: SM Megamall Cyberzone, Market Market - 4/F Unit 417, SM Fairview-3/F, SM San Lazaro-3/F, Ayala Town Centre-3/F Activity Centre

How to Make Oreo Bento Meals
Making bento for the first time was tedious, but fun. I can't think of any other word to describe how our Better Me session went yesterday -- it's just pure fun! My girl would agree with me too. The bonding activity was something different, creative, exciting, and pretty edible! =) I'm too eager to share with you how we crafted our first #OreoBento meals, so here's a simple tutorial with tips and tricks I picked up from the workshop.

Fun Friday: K-Palette's 1Day Magic Party
Third Friday of the month: Party / Events
I missed going to blogger events. Since late last year, I have not been as visible in media and blogger functions mainly because we don't have a nanny for the kids anymore. And then there's homeschooling. If you're in a similar set-up, you would understand that it's not easy to just leave them and go. That's why I decided to have this feature under Fun Friday instead of Mom-Finds since being at the launch of K-Palette 1Day Magic was more fun for me than anything else. I wasn't even sure to go when I got the invitation, but it's a blessing that it fell on a holiday, so I excitedly confirmed my attendance.

Mom-Grocer: Yakult Light Everyday
I grew up with Yakult, and has been drinking it since elementary days. I still remember Yakult ladies in blue, pushing their carts with a smile and selling packs of these little cold probiotic drinks from house to house -- and I think they still do to this day. Yakult has been part of our grocery list for the longest time, and everyone I know drinks, or at least have tried, this delicious health beverage, adults and kids alike. And just recently, they came out with Yakult Light, same yummy goodness but with less calories!
Yakult invited me to a plant tour in their Calamba, Laguna factory last June 7, but sadly, I was not able to make it. It would have been awesome to see where and how our favorite cultured milk is made. Incidentally, Yakult is celebrating it's 35th anniversary and I believe they still remain to be the top probiotic drink.
I was thrilled to receive sample packs of Yakult Light for the whole family to try. We're down to our last Yakult pack (red) so it's time to enjoy the new light version with this cool blue label. Compare their Nutrition Facts, side by side above.
Yakult = 60 calories vs. Yakult Light = 45 calories
- Also contains 8 billion live lactobacillus casei Shirota strain
- Sweet and tart, same great taste we love, but I noticed a slightly "thinner" consistency (hubby thinks there's hardly any difference)
- Helps increase good bacteria and decrease bad bacteria = healthier, stronger intestines = better digestion
In my home, the kids prefer other milk drinks. It's actually J and I who drink Yakult everyday! One main reason is because of Probiotics. I wrote about it's benefits here before (wellness and nutrition feature):
Yakult Light is priced a bit higher with SRP at PhP10 /80ml bottle. But I saw a pack of 5 in the grocery priced below PhP50, while regular Yakult is less than PhP40 per pack of 5. I think I'll buy this Yakult Light for J from now on (since having less calories will benefit him more than me, heehee), while I can have any variant I want! =)

We have several stainless steel bottles / tumblers / jug, whatever you call it, since we're trying to lessen our use of plastic bottles. I actually stopped buying plastic bottles a long time ago. Anyway, many of the bottles are used by the kids since they bring their own water wherever we go, not just to school. I also end up carrying my own bottle if I have a big bag, but I pity my bag and my shoulder with the extra load! Tiger, the ubiquitous lunch box brand from Japan that I grew up with, came out with a fantastic solution with this new flask.

Occasionally, I ask my kids to share their water with me when I'm too lazy to bring one. There's no need for that now as I have my own Ultralight Stainless Steel Bottle, thanks to my friend from TIGER! Woohoo! And look, it fits right in with all the essentials I have in the bag. I've been taking this everywhere with me for two weeks now. Love, love, love the pearl white finish, so sleek and classy, don't you agree? =)
![]() |
| Instagram.com/mymomfriday |
What I like about TIGER Ultralight Stainless Steel Bottle:
- As the name suggests, it's ultralight - weighs 130g only
- 7 inches small, compact and portable
- Single serving size - 300 ml / 9.5 oz
- Stainless steel body with Advanced Super Clean Plus process - BPA-free, keeps bottle stain-resistant and odor-free
- Spill-proof with rubber rim from cap interior
- Keeps beverage hot or cold, up to 6 hours (see Quality Label below for more details)
- Comes in 4 attractive colors/finish - White, Blue, Pink, Stainless

Get one of these handy flasks for yourself so you don't need to bring/buy (plastic)bottled water when going out. I also ordered these babies as gifts for relatives. You can't go wrong with a TIGER!

Foodie Friday: Beef Sukiyaki a'la Mom-Friday
First Friday of the month: Mom-Cook / Recipe
We love Japanese food and I made some attempts to prepare a few favorite dishes at home, but without success. It took several trials before the hubby was pleased - yes, he's my greatest (and most brutal) critic! =) But who else would give me an honest feedback, right. Over the years, my kitchen churned out good and bad versions of katsudon, kani salad, chicken teriyaki, gyudon, yakitori, among others. Of course, I've failed and succeeded too with J's fave Japanese hot pot dish - sukiyaki.

The recent holiday season was festive, stressful, joyous, and tiring all the same time - at least for my family. One awesome thing that came out of the break was a welcome respite at Acacia Hotel Manila, where my family of four was treated to an overnight accommodation after Christmas.

Toki Q Japanese-style Rotating Barbecue
The country's first rotating barbecue fast food restaurant -- that's Toki Q!
Toki Q is conveniently located within my neighborhood, so when Jane extended the invite to me, off I went to the intimate blogger mixer held last month, organized by Zodio (more about Zodio before I end this post). I'm glad I attended since I really enjoyed everything that they served us.
See that rotating contraption above? It's the rotating griller/broiler that the resto owners imported from Japan. That's were all the yakitori (skewered chicken) and pork belly get their ride around the "barbecue carousel" and get grilled to perfection.
I made sure I left room for dessert 'coz they also offered a favorite of mine - mochi! The only available flavor then was the Black Sesame, which was a winner for me with its chewy bits of caramelized sesame seeds with ice cream. I had one happy tummy that night! =)
The place is very small though, and can accommodate around 12-14 people only. Parking is available in front of the resto and at the building's basement. But I've observed during the event that several customers just order to-go.
So, what's the connection between Toki Q and Zodio?

Check out their menu of savory and very affordable Japanese-style BBQ dishes basted in their very own sweet and salty "Toki sauce". Toki Q offers Combo meals, a'la carte dishes, and even group platters.

| COMBO MEALS COME IN SLEEK PAPER-LINED TIN TRAYS |
I was able to try their Combo 3 (from top to bottom):
- Chicken Wings - 2 pcs.
- Chicken Fillet - tender boneless fillets
- Tontoro Pork - thinly sliced pork belly
- Chicken Ball - 3 pcs.
Although my Tontoro was more charred than the other sticks, I still enjoyed it more than the balls. Everything was very tasty and flavorful. I really liked the taste and doneness of the meats, plus, they offer unlimited rice with the combos, so you'll definitely have a full and satisfying meal!

| MENU from Toki Q |
For the food quality and price, Toki Q is a far better, and healthier, alternative to your typical fast food fare.
Aside from my hearty Combo 3 meal, I also got to try their extras:
- Toki BBQ Corn - Spicy flavored powder on grilled corn, which I still crave from time to time
- Kara-age - bite-sized glazed crispy fried chicken, a popular Japanese appetizer, which became my favorite at the end of the night

Mom-Finds: Yuko Aqua Gold Hair Repair Spray
Last Friday of the month: Mom-Finds / Beauty product
"Ang kapal ng buhok mo" (your hair is thick). This is how most, if not all, people describe my hair whenever I go to a salon or during the very few instances when people take notice. It is thick, and dark, and dull. Oh well...I never really fuss over my hair, or my appearance, as much as others would. I often think my hair screams for my attention from time to time, especially when it poofs up and appears so dry.
Now let me warn you: I do not claim this to be a miracle spray but I am just very happy and totally satisfied with what it can do for my hair, and my confidence! :)
Presenting...the Aqua Gold Repair Through by Yuko, hair treatment (leave-on) spray "for dry, sensitized, and damage hair". Made in Japan.
I bought this spray at Akira Hair and Make-up Salon (AHMS) with the promise of giving my hair a healthier, softer, shinier look with regular use. Help with the Japanese description please! :)
My hair chronicles began with a new haircut and Yuko Yamashita hair treatment system from Akira salon which I got with a coupon deal. This was part of my 'pamper-me' project for my birthday month. The conditioning treatment gave my hair a softer texture, making it more manageable. To maintain this, the stylist recommended the use of this convenient, home treatment spray.
As much as possible, I try to avoid featuring myself in any of my posts. I prefer to work behind the scenes. But (blog) duty calls and the inevitable happens. So excuse the portraits and hair shots. I tried. Hard. No help. Now here I am again, this time, featuring "The Hair". Sorry, I don't have "before" shots.
You have to believe me when I say I really don't have the nicest hair and a I usually sport a ponytail for a clean, low-maintenance look. The rare times I receive compliments for my hair was when I straighten it and wear it down. The past couple of weeks that I've been meeting up with different sets of friends, "The Hair" has gotten raves, even on Twitter! LOL! And so I thought I'd share my beauty find, especially for those who have a similar hair dilemma. Even for guys!
On top of this, I sometimes use Citre Shine Anti-Frizz Spray Laminator. A shine mist that makes my hair look more polished and in place. I had this one for a longer time now and only use it after I style my hair with a straightening iron. It does create that glossy finish, though temporary.

For those wondering what straightening iron I used, it's Conair with wider ceramic plates that are more gentle on hair over metal surfaces. I ordered thru Amazon several years ago. It's cheaper now at only $20.40!!! Check it out!

Conair Flat Iron 2" Ceramic Straightener - Dual Voltage
I am also eyeing this 2-in-1!

| Finally....soft, tame head of hair! |
Truth be told, my hair instantly softens when sprayed, and leaves a very subtle sheen that livens up my usually plain, dull, dry hair. Japanese hair technology at it's best? It's not cheap so I just use it when I'm meeting people! => I am definitely saving every drop of this Yuko spray! Stocks must be limited now especially after the devastation in Japan.

Still, I dream of those lush, glossy, bouncy model-hair...in time, maybe...
There. I did it. Hopefully, I won't have to "model" for a post again! :)))
