Mom-Finds: Himawari Hair Care from Japan

Last Friday of the month:  Shopping / Beauty

I may not be a beauty blogger, but whenever I discover a really good product that works for my skin and hair, I'd be more than happy to share my new finds with you. You see, having thick, slightly wavy and "buhaghag" hair (meaning hindi siya smooth and tame, medyo puffy if I just let it dry on it's own), I can never go out while my hair is still wet, or just let my hair down without a proper blow-dry. In short, I don't need volumizing products. Kaya I'm always in a ponytail most days. When I got invited to a blow-out treat last week, that's when I discovered this Japanese brand, Himawari.

I am not the type to eagerly try out and go ga-ga over new beauty products. Usually, when I want to try or switch to something new, I ask friends for recommendations before I buy. When I'm lucky, I receive samples from different brands or get invited to beauty events like this (which I rarely attend). But my friend, Cheryl of Beautybox Corp., brings in some of the best Japanese beauty brands in the market today. I'm already a fan of many of her products so I went to support her with Himawari 'coz I'm confident it's a winner too (and it's my first time to be treated to a fab blow-out in a posh salon).

Eto muna yung "after" the blow-out pampering session at Toni & Guy salon, located at Discovery Primea in Makati. The salon uses Himawari hair care products for their services. Sosyal! For a prestigious salon to carry the brand says a lot about the quality of the products.

Here I am with friends -- fellow blogger, Rowena, and Beautybox Corp. CEO, Cheryl Chua in sunflower yellow.

What's so special about HIMAWARI Hair Care Series?

Himawari Dear Beaute Oil in Shampoo and Oil in Conditioner:
  • Silicone-free
  • Sulfate-free
  • Formulated with: Organic Sunflower Oil and Extract, Organic Sunflower Sprout and Seeds Extracts
    • moisturizes hair
    • improves scalp health
    • helps prevent hair loss and graying
    • provides softness and shine
    • eliminates frizzy hair
  • Shampoo and Conditioner come in a convenient pump bottle; SRP @ P695 each / 500ml

When I arrived at the salon, I checked out the product display and a Beautybox representative asked which variant I would like for my hair. Since I want a more manageable and less "buhaghag" hair, the HIMAWARI Rich and Repair shampoo and conditioner set is the one for me, and that's what the hair stylists used.  I was ready for my "sleek and straight" blow-out.

What I like about HIMAWARI Oil in Shampoo and Oil in Conditioner - Rich & Repair:
  • Sulfate- and silicone-free formula gently cleanses strands
  • Controls volume and moisturizes hair
  • Tames frizzy, coarse and unmanageable hair
  • Deeply conditions and restores internal lipid-moisture balance
  • Leaves hair vibrant and manageable
  • Light, sunny floral scent

I left the salon with a set of HIMAWARI Oil in Shampoo and Oil in Conditioner - Volume & Repair, which I decided to have my daughter use.
  • Same gentle and organic formulation - safe for kids to use and will also make her limp, tangled and dry hair come to life
  • Boosts volume and moisturizes hair
  • Enhances body and bounce at the roots
  • Deeply conditions and restores internal lipid-moisture balance
  • Leaves hair vibrant and manageable
  • Sweet floral scent

The Rich and Repair shampoo (yellow-orange variant) has a creamy liquid, while the Volume & Repair shampoo (blue-green) is clear. I like the scent of the blue-green better though.  When I got home, I tried it too and the my hair was nice, soft and tame, but not as "flat" and smooth like when I used the Rich & Repair.  Kasi nga, I don't need volume na.

Top right - old photo I snapped before bedtime, with our hair down, air-dried after regular shampoo.
Left and bottom photos - with our hair down, air-dried after use of Himawari shampoo and conditioner. Mas smooth and tame na!!!

M's fine and limp hair looked so much fuller, smoother, and more manageable than before. We are happy HIMAWARI customers!  You should try it for yourselves!

For at-home hair treatments, try HIMAWARI Oil in Treatment, also with sulfate-free formula and highly-concentrated premium sunflower oil extract that nourishes hair follicles for stronger, shinier hair. Use once or twice weekly. SRP @ P695 / 200ml.

The shampoo and conditioner also comes in value packs to refill your pump bottles -- SRP @ P495 / 360ml.

Needless to say, I am totally satisfied with the effects of HIMAWARI on our specific hair needs. Hindi na "buhaghag" ang hair kahit hindi kami nag-blow dry. I've only tried one other brand that delivered similar results, formulated with argan oil, but it's more pricey. A few of my friends also swear by Himawari, which they bought from Japan. Now, no need to buy abroad since it's locally available.
