How To Plan Summer Activites For Kids

"Ok, swimming for me!"
"I want drums."
"I like guitar better."
"I think I'll try ice skating."

The boy is 10 and the girl is 7. At this stage, they are more curious and more open to try new things. As coach Pia Acevedo advised, we have to let the child explore their talents before they reach high school.  Since summer season is about to start, it's time to map out how the kids can have a meaningful vacation time.

Swish Breath Spray for Instant Freshness

The title said it all. It's instant oral freshness with this newest breath spray from leading mouthwash brand, Swish.
SRP @ PhP 105 / 10ml spray

We are heavy users of Swish Mouthwash, so I really appreciate all the Swish samples I received from Unilab. Since, it's alcohol-free, the kids also use this mouthwash twice a day. Obviously, I did not hesitate to accept this trial pack of Swish Breath Spray sent over a month ago. We love Swish.

I can't recall if there was ever a local brand of breath spray being sold in the market.  After trying out this Swish Breath Spray, I knew this will surely be a hit since it's super convenient.  I even brought one along during our weekend excursion.

What's great about Swish Breath Spray:
  • Instant fresh breath in 10 seconds -- anytime, anywhere
  • Kills germs and bacteria in the mouth -- eliminates bad breath caused by eating, drinking, and smoking
  • Pocket-sized - very convenient, great for travel
  • Alcohol-free and sugar-free
  • Available in 2 refreshing variants – Arctic Chill and Peppermint Fresh
  • Very economical -- up to 100 sprays per bottle

This spray is perfect for J, who still smokes. Unfortunately, he still can't kick the habit. At least with Swish, he can freshen up with a quick spray after smoking.

Take this along anywhere, fits perfectly in a small purse, in your pocket, or your office drawer.  Simply spray 1 to 2 pumps into your mouth to freshen breath instantly. Get your own Swish Breath Spray from supermarkets, drugstores and convenience stores nationwide.

RashFree: More than a Diaper and Rash Cream

Mild eczema, chafed skin, insect bites, and minor cuts -- my family is constantly afflicted by these common skin problems and we apply so many different kinds of balms and topical medications.  I only have myself to blame for being too lazy to learn about and search for a 'do-all' product that we can conveniently use to make these irritating skin conditions go away.

I am thankful for my blog sponsor, Unilab, because I wouldn't have been educated about zinc oxide if not for their latest skin ointment -- RashFree.

According to MIMS Philippines, "Zinc oxide is a skin protectant.  It acts as a physical barrier that soothes the skin and prevents it from coming into direct contact with external irritants. This protective effect prevents worsening of the condition and promotes the normal healing processes of the skin."

SRP @ PhP150 / 30g tube
Each gram of ointment contains 200mg zinc oxide.
RashFree is formulated for the prevention and treatment of diaper rash. It can also be used to promote healing of:
  • minor skin irritations
  • non-infected wounds
  • burns
  • abrasions, cuts
  • chafed skin
  • sunburn
  • insect bites

I know it's being sold mainly as a diaper rash cream, but I have no baby bum to apply it on anymore. Nevertheless, we still put it to good use.  My daughter has chronic mild eczema. My boy is never free from mosquito bites. As for me, almost a month ago, I had this circular, reddish, scaly, itchy, dry patch of skin above my knee, the size of a 25 centavo coin.  I ignored it for weeks and did not apply any topical medication until I can't stop scratching anymore.
(Please excuse the icky shot below)

I applied RashFree thinly on that red patch every night over a week, and the relief was instant.  Gradually, the redness subsided, the scaly skin smoothed out, and more importantly, my scratching stopped.  What a big relief!
(Again, please excuse my icky dry skin)

Suffice it to say, RashFree works!  It's good to keep a tube in your first aid kit or medicine cabinet as a use-all skin ointment. Available at leading drugstores.

Mom-Finds: Skin Cravings Body Scrub and Lotion

Last Friday of the month:  Mom-Finds under P500

As soon as I opened this gift bag, I immediately wanted to use the products to see how they would compare to the imported brands I've been using for years.  After a few weeks of using regularly, I can confidently say that these locally-made, sweet-scented skin pampering products will be a hit!
I was one of the lucky few who won this gift pack during the recently-concluded Celeteque Advanced blogger event.  My team won the ice-breaker contest and got this special prize. I did not open the bag until I got home. And what a wonderful surprise.

Introducing Skin Cravings Body Scrub and Body Lotion from Innovitelle, Inc. (a subsidiary of leading health care company Unilab).  Skin Cravings is a new line of skin care products manufactured locally, made from special ingredients imported from France and other countriesIt has been dermatologically tested to be hypo-allergenic, so they're safe for everyday use.
Body Scrub  :  SRP @ P255 / 300ml
Scrub Me Pretty Body Scrub
There were three dainty (clear plastic) bottles of body scrub in assorted fruity yoghurt variants:
  • Cranberry Yoghurt
  • Dewberry Yoghurt
  • Strawberry Yoghurt
I always love to try new body washes and scrubs so, came bath time, I decided to opened one. I am guessing the strawberry's scent was too predictable, and dewberry was kinda unique to me, so I chose to open the familiar cranberry first.

Look at how thick this is. It smells, looks, and feels like real fruit-flavored yoghurt!  If it were not for the labeled bottle, someone can mistake this for the real thing! :)))

Verdict:  My skin loved it. Winner!
It felt light once slathered on my skin and does not leave any residue or icky feeling.  I could actually feel the generous exfoliating grains which I really liked, compared with others I've tried that does not seem to have enough of the "scrub factor".  It doesn't lather so it leaves no residue and washes off easily, giving me a moisturized feeling all over.

It also leaves a hint of sweet fruity scent, not overpowering at all.

Smooth Over Body Lotion
The lotion came in two distinct scents:
  • Choc' Mint Kisses
  • Strawberry Cream
Again, the strawberry was a safe choice so I went to open the green bottle. If you eat chocolate mint candies, then you already know how I smell every time I smooth on this rich skin confection.  It took a few days for me to get used to the scent since I always imagine rubbing mint chocolate on my body, heehee!  It smelled better minutes after application. Weird, but nice. I was able to take a whiff of the Strawberry Cream and found it too sweet-smelling. I guess it will smell lighter once slathered.
Body Lotion  :  SRP @ P240 / 250ml
I like the smooth, creamy texture. However, my palms feel a bit sticky after smoothing over my body. Or maybe I applied too much? But I still like the moisturized feeling since I tend to have dry, scaly skin especially on the legs.

Overall, Skin Secrets would be a wonderful addition to the skin products I use regularly, especially the body scrub since the imported ones cost double the price.  I can't wait to try the other variants!

If you like fruit-scented skin care products, you might like these too!  Now available in Landmark department store, Rustan's Supermarket, and Shopwise Supermarket.

Find out how I got my hands at these goodies here! :)

New Anti-aging Skin Care with Celeteque Advanced

So let's talk about healthy, beautiful skin.

For those of you who've been following my blog for sometime, you may have noticed I don't do much beauty features. Truth is, I don't get giddy over beauty stuff.  Now don't get me wrong, I love wearing make-up on occasion, and I do follow a basic, low-maintenance skin care and beauty regimen.

Reality bites -- I'm a few years shy of being forty (can't believe I wrote that number down...in my book, I'm forever 28!)  and realized that I never really gave much thought about my "aging" skin until after listening to a dermatologist talk about it in depth. Lightbulb moment!

Mom-Finds: Myra VitaGlow Tinted Facial Moisturizer

Last Friday of the month:  Mom-Finds under P500 / Beauty

Moisturizer. Foundation. Concealer. With minerals, Vitamin E and SPF 15. All these in one tube.

I've been using Myra VITAGLOW Tinted Facial Moisturizer for almost a week now and I am loving it!

This is only my second beauty post after a year of blogging. My first was a lip shimmer. Obviously, I am not a cosmetics junkie so you can be sure that I only feature fab beauty finds that I actually use and would rave about. And Myra VitaGlow is one such find.

What it does for your skin:

Gives a hint of color
Evens out skin tone with a natural coverage

Contains minerals
Gives your skin a healthy glow

Enriched with Vitamin E
Helps keep skin soft, healthy and young-looking

With SPF 15
Protects the skin against the sun's harmful rays

Dermatologist-tested / Hypo-allergenic
Mild, gentle, and safe for everyday use

Apply gently and evenly on your face and neck after cleansing.

Use daily as your facial moisturizer, or as make-up base.  Best to pat on light face powder for a more flawless finish.

Trying VitaGlow:
Below was my "arm test" to make sure I would not have any reactions to the product.  I squeezed a pea-sized amount on my inner forearm and spread it on one side (left), leaving the other side bare.  Notice the instant sheen and glow on the left.  Also, it evened out the tone and added a subtle color/tint on the skin.

Now moving on to the face.
You have to forgive me for my self-portraits as I attempt (really hard!) for the first time, to illustrate how wonderful this tinted cream is. And a much as I avoid featuring myself, for this purpose I simply have no choice but to "model" this one.

My big boo-boo:  I failed to take a 'Before' shot.
But I don't want to scare you people so consider that slip up as a good thing! Hehehe..

Note:  Portraits were NOT retouched nor enhanced, meaning the skin tone and texture was not "doctored".  Only sharpness, brightness and contrast were adjusted for a more vivid image.

RESULTS:
 - Myra VitaGlow in Beige evened out my skin tone with light, natural coverage.
 - Some blemishes on the lower cheek, and dark circles under my eye were still visible up close. (My chicken pox scar can never be concealed though.)
 - Skin really looked more healthy and dewy because of the subtle shimmer which I really like. I was already confident to step out of the house looking like this.

Of course you cannot expect this product to be long-wearing. Although you can wear it alone, it is recommended that you apply your favorite face powder for a more flawless look. With that in mind, I dabbed on this shine-free face powder by Myra for a matte finish (below, right).

After dotting my face with the cream, I just have to spread it out quickly and evenly since it dries up fast. I was very happy with the results and I did not require a touch-up of powder the whole day. You can still see some shimmer, and my dark circles and blemishes were now almost completely concealed after putting on powder. And my skin looked more smooth and even. I am very satisfied.

@ P135.00 - 35ml tube.  Comes in 2 shades:  Ivory and Beige

What I like about this tinted moisturizer:
  • Not sticky or oily
  • It feels light on the skin and smooth to the touch
  • Leaves a dewy-healthy glow on the skin with a hint of sparkle
  • An all-in-one product in a tube, at a very friendly price
  • Made by a trusted brand in health and personal care
  • A one-step beauty cream that shortens the time spent on beauty routine
  • Practical and fabulous
  • Perfect for busy moms and women on the go
Many thanks to Unilab for these wonder products which were part of the gift bag from our mom-bloggers' recent plant tour of their Amherst Lab. Honestly, if not for that exposure trip, I wouldn't even give these products a second look if I saw them on beauty stands.  I was simply partial to imported cosmetics brands. Am I bad?

After witnessing how Unilab places a premium on quality through their world-class manufacturing process and practices, I am now a more educated consumer and is confident that this proudly-Philippine-made product is good for me.

Now, who needs imported, and very expensive tinted moisturizers when you can have Myra VitaGlow?! Plus, it is 'major-major' affordable!  :-)  I am hooked.

Available at the beauty sections of leading department stores and drugstores.
