The holidays are fast approaching and for sure, there are already several party planning in the works. One of the most important element is the food, siyempre, and it's the best time to serve special lutong nanay recipes and festive-looking dishes like this menudo. It looks and feels like Christnas, no? =) But I have to confess, this is my first time to cook this dish coz the family is not fond of dishes mixed with liver, so I made my own version here.

Favorite Pinoy Sweet Style Spaghetti
We all love pasta dishes. Spaghetti bolognese is a staple dish and I prepare it with or without an occasion coz it's safe to serve in minutes and everybody eats it. There are so many variations to the bolognese sauce and the Filipino style is on the sweet side. Personally, mas gusto ko yung Italian style in chunky tomato-herb sauce and without the sweet flavor. J prefers the sweet-style kaya minsan compromise with the sauce.

A Festive Salo-salo at KUYA J Restaurant with Jericho Rosales
I am a foodie at heart and I do appreciate a range of cuisines as well as how food was prepared. Filipino cuisine, with all it's Spanish and Oriental influences, is a fusion of exotic flavors. Comfort food for the soul. Admittedly, there are only a handful of Pinoy restos that I can claim to love and go back to. With that short list, I can safely say I've now added Kuya J resto -- a homegrown dining destination where families can enjoy a hearty Filipino feast!

A Mother's Legacy: Celebrate Mother's Day at Sofitel Philippine Plaza
Last week, I finally had my first gastronomic feast at the famed Spiral buffet restaurant of the grand Sofitel hotel. I was welcomed with fellow blogger friends to a preview of "A Mother's Legacy" -- Sofitel's unique celebration and tribute for Mother's Day starting this Friday, May 9, 2014. Incidentally, my blog will be five years old on Friday!!! =)
The event at Spiral was literally a feast for the senses - with a bounty of mouth-watering dishes, display of gorgeous floral arrangements, beautiful works from local artisans with actual demos... feeling overwhelmed was an understatement.

Foodie Friday: Boneless Chicken / Pork Adobo
First Friday of the month: Mom-Cook / Recipe
read more
Adobo. The unofficial national dish of the Philippines needs no further introduction. It's probably the most cooked, most popular comfort food and "ulam" in the country. It's a meat stew, sometimes for seafood or veggie too, cooked in garlic, vinegar, and soy sauce. I've made a few versions of pork and chicken adobo since I got married, including the Chinese-style hong-ma with a more sweet-salty thick sauce. But this version is a personal favorite.
