Last week, I finally had my first gastronomic feast at the famed Spiral buffet restaurant of the grand Sofitel hotel. I was welcomed with fellow blogger friends to a preview of "A Mother's Legacy" -- Sofitel's unique celebration and tribute for Mother's Day starting this Friday, May 9, 2014. Incidentally, my blog will be five years old on Friday!!! =)
The event at Spiral was literally a feast for the senses - with a bounty of mouth-watering dishes, display of gorgeous floral arrangements, beautiful works from local artisans with actual demos... feeling overwhelmed was an understatement.

I am salivating as I post my food shots here, and this is just a small portion of the whole spread. The center aisle featured heirloom dishes and secret family recipes from each chef, as well as a spectacular display of chocolate creations (which I failed to take a photo of!). This is foodgasm to the max!
After taking some time to take decent photos of the food and exhibit, we started our trek to see the wide selection from Spiral's 21 ateliers. Time for lunch! It was so hard to decide what to get, I tell you. This was my first time here so you can imagine how exciting (and dizzying) it was for a foodie like me to navigate my way through the different stations and sample the delectable offerings I see everywhere.
I didn't know where to start, I missed out on so many cuisines. My hands were full, my camera didn't have the memory card, and so I didn't get to snap enough food shots! These iphone photo collages didn't do justice to Spiral's impressive buffet.
During the luncheon hosted by the lovely Tricia Ciongbian-Concepcion, we were welcomed by Sofitel's general manager, Adam Laker, and were also introduced to the hotel's esteemed chefs, as well as their partners for A Mother's Legacy, which included the provincial government of Ilocos Norte, represented by Gov. Imee Marcos.
The mood was very festive during the event last April 30 and I definitely enjoyed the spectacular buffet and revelry with my fellow SoMoms. I hope I was able to whet your appetite with the first half of this post and have an epicurean journey to celebrate Mother's Day at Spirals.

- Aside from the impressive 21 ateliers, food stations serving Filipino specialties will be headlined by traditional Ilocano dishes - it will a fiesta at Spiral
- Dragon fruit wine and cookies will be on offer from Editha Dacuycuy, pioneer in dragon fruit farming from Ilocos
- Showcase of local favorites and secret recipes from master chefs
- Live demonstrations from women artisans - Abel Iloco weaving, basket weaving by S.C. Vizcarra, barong embroidery by Bergamo
- Mothers availing of Mother's Day Room Package within this period will receive a special gift - a three-strand fresh water necklace
May 10 - May 17
- Diners at Spiral's lunch and dinner buffet will be invited to participate in the mini workshops
- Abel Iloco weaving, basket weaving, barong embroidery
May 13
- A Mother's Legacy Fashion Show and dinner
- Ilocos native, designer Ryan Madamba will showcase his luxury resort and evening wear collection using Abel Iloco, our local tweed
- Honoring of Filipina leaders, recognized as Sofitel's remarkable mothers
May 10 - May 11
- Art of floral expression - special workshop by Larry Pagsanjan
- May 10, dinner at Spiral
- May 11, brunch at Spiral
Before the end of the program, guests were treated to a live demo and short tutorial on floral arrangement, courtesy of resident botanical specialist, Larry Pagsanjan. We was able to participate in the on-the-spot floral arrangement using fresh roses on a low glass cylinder. On the lower left was my cute centerpiece of apricot-colored roses. You can try it out too! What an amazing day it was at Spiral! If only it were not to far from our place I could've visited sooner. I'm sure my friends were as delighted (and full) as I am. This was our souvenir photo with Gov. Imee Marcos.
