Cirque du Soleil brings 'TORUK - The First Flight' to Manila

I am looking forward to watch my first ever Cirque du Soleil show in a few weeks! Cirque du Soleil is known to be the biggest theatrical producer in the world and they will hold the Asian premiere of TORUK –  The First Flight in Manila this June 23rd!

Inspired by James Cameron’s blockbuster movie, Avatar, Cirque du Soleil will transport us to the world of Pandora in a live immersive experience with multimedia technology, stunning visuals and puppetry, and unique storytelling of the Na’vi’s symbiotic coexistence with nature and their belief in the basic interconnectedness of all living things. Here's a peek at some of the scenes from TORUK - The First Flight.

“After 15 months of touring North America and over 1.3 million fans, we are ecstatic to make our Asian debut in the great city of Manila! We heard Filipinos love the movie Avatar so we really hope they will join us to revisit Pandora in this visually stunning live setting.
TORUK is a one-of-a-kind show with breathtaking video projections, impressive acrobatic acts, gigantic puppets… There is truly something for everyone in the family!’’
- Janie Mallet, publicist for TORUK – The First Flight

“Avatar is really meant to be a celebration of human motion and human emotion and Cirque is able to capture that absolutely perfectly because it’s all about human performance and physicality. It makes you feel alive to watch these performers!”
- James Cameron, writer and director of Avatar

During an intimate dinner, I had the privilege of meeting some of the people behind the show. They shared that the whole production was an elaborate and tedious process, and every step was a close collaboration with James Cameron, who created Avatar. The artists had to learn the Na'vi language and do their own makeup too!

TORUK - The First Flight is a prequel to the movie Avatar and we will be introduced to five Na'vi clans of Pandora.

TORUK team: Spokesperson Janie Mallet, acrobat Daniel Crispin, head coach Michael Ocampo, and puppeteer Rob Laqui

Daniel Crispin plays Entu of the Omaticaya Clan, one of the main characters in TORUK

This will be one spectacular show for sure and I can't wait for the premiere! Cique du Soleil's TORUK will run 15 shows in Manila so be sure to catch one.
