Last Summer Weekend at New World Makati Hotel

Our recent overnight stay at New World Hotel is a belated Mother's Day treat for me. I am claiming that, kasi naman I was not able to relax on Mother's Day. I'm still homeschooling by the way, so we didn't plan any trips this summer. I really welcome quick breaks like these so it was a nice way to officially end summer season, with no worries about anything -- at least for a weekend.

Two summers ago, I was able to visit the newly renovated New World Makati Hotel and was impressed with the expansive lobby with their high ceiling, lighted stairway, and tasteful contemporary design.

At that time, my friends and I were invited to dine at Jasmine Cantonese restaurant, which I featured here. Their specialty dishes are superb. I was looking forward to having dimsum there again while we're staying over, but the kids spoiled my plan.

Anyhow, we were booked for May 29-30 -- the last weekend of the season. Checking in was a breeze and New World Hotel accommodated us for an overnight stay to experience their Renovated Room on the 5th floor, where their Superior Rooms are located.  The kids felt right at home.

The hotel has three room categories: Superior, Deluxe, and Premier Room. Each is designed and furnished for the comforts of business and leisure travelers.

Since we're a family of four, with kids aged 8 and 11, our usual set-up when staying in hotels is a room with a king bed plus request for an extra bed. I share the bed with the kids, while J sleeps solo. He's actually more relaxed than me! In this room, the chair and coffee table were moved to make way for the extra bed. However, only a maximum of 2 extra pillows can be requested.

The room has a nice view of the poolside. We had good weather that day so the pool was so inviting.

Our superior room also features a marble bathroom with basic toiletries, separate bath tub and shower area, which is good. Other amenities include:
  • Complimentary internet access
  • 37” flat screen TV with cable channels
  • Hairdryer
  • Work desk with media panel
  • Coffee and tea-maker
  • Minibar with complimentary bottle water
  • Digital safe for valuables
  • Bath robes, slippers
  • Flat iron and ironing board

After crashing the bed, which they always do the first thing we enter our room, they chill for several minutes then get ready to dive into the pool.

The nice thing about the pool area is it has lots of lounge chairs, and picnic tables and chairs with umbrellas. There's also a shallow kiddie pool perfect for toddlers.

On our first day, they got all kiddie pool all for themselves.  There's also one side of the adult pool where you can do laps.

We spent the whole afternoon here and ordered a club sandwich to share after they got out. Medyo pricey at P600++ but it's big and masarap naman, simot lahat coz it's really chunky and well seasoned. The tray came with a super cute personal size bottle of ketchup and mayo, which the girl and the boy brought back to our room! Nag-nenok pa! Buti we paid for this, hahaha! =)

Back at our room, relax-relax muna after their swim and shower before going out for dinner. The kids haven't been out in Makati at night, so we just crossed the street that evening for some window shopping and then had dinner at Nanbantei. New World Hotel is right across Greenbelt 3, so location-wise, it's very convenient to go malling - to shop and dine, watch movies.  The Ayala Museum, which we visited last year, is also within Greenbelt. You can view our museum tour here. Families will surely be fascinated by the dioramas and ancient gold exhibits we saw at the museum.

For hip couples, you may want to try clubbing or have a few drinks at the hotel's Palladium Super Club and Vogue Lounge. Hanggang tingin na lang ako sa entrance, hahahaha... we were so full after dinner and just wanted to rest and relax in our room.

Breakfast time!!! The buffet was at CafĂ© 1228 at the lobby area and features five interactive live-cooking stations. It's also open for all-day dining with a'la carte dishes on offer. Sayang kasi with my kids, hindi sulit ang kahit anong buffet, coz they only eat very little -- and I mean little! Bread, bacon, and pancakes lang solved na sila!

As I've said, bread and pancakes lang and they're happy na. My boy always heads to the bread station and he's in heaven. As soon as we entered, rows of assorted breads and pastries greeted us and this boy just made one stop and he's off to our table to enjoy his 3 pandesal and slice of bread. I'm so frustrated with this one, I tell you.

The girl is more adventurous and is willing to try what I offer her.  That morning, daddy got her request for some crispy bacon, a slice of bread, and warm taho.

That plate below is mine -- first round pa lang yan. =)  I had the usual bacon and cheese slices, juice, and champorado which I forgot to pour milk on. I was not able to take photos of the next plate kasi tapos na sila, ako hindi pa! So concentrate on eating nalang ako.  I super love the fresh premium fruit jams from The Fruit Garden, and I was so delighted to see this brand as part of the selection by the bread station.  There were also personal jars on our table! I got more croissants and finished half of the jams in front of me. Sarap!

Here's the Asian corner, with Japanese sushi and maki, Chinese dimsum and congee, and Pinoy delicacies like tuyo and danggit.

I regret not being able to try more dishes from the other stations (again, my companions are done and waiting for me).  The breakfast buffet may not be as impressive as others we've tried, but the quality is very good and the variety is enough to keep me going back for seconds, and thirds.

The hotel also has a fully-equipped gym and spa for those who want to keep fit and get pampered. Aside from the pool, there's no other amenities for the kids.

The hotel was generous to extend our check-out time so we didn't have to rush and leave. After breakfast, it allowed us to have a leisurely walk to Greenbelt, have lunch at Mr. Pizza, and do some shopping. By mid-afternoon, the kids were back in the pool for one final swim before we left. Thank you, New World Makati Hotel, for this belated mom's day treat and for this quick escape within the city.
