I love beef. I love steak. It's been a while since I've had one good steak meal, kaya it was a welcome treat for me when I got invited to dinner at Cowrie Grill in Greenhills. That was my first time to dine there and let me tell you, it was one of the best meals I've had in months. While I knew that Cowrie Grill was by Manila Hotel, I never expected it was the famed steakhouse of the hotel until my recent visit.
The Manila Hotel opened Cowrie Grill in 1997. Through the years, the restaurant had become an institution as the hotel’s signature premier steakhouse where many memories were made. In 2011, the iconic Cowrie Grill gave way to the expansion and renovation of the hotel’s Café Ilang-Ilang. Cowrie Grill was re-launched in 2013 at its new home in Greenhills Promenade, an off-site restaurant managed by The Manila Hotel. Its new location is central to its clientele and has further expanded the hotel’s reach.
I should consider myself lucky coz they chose to open Cowrie Grill in my neck of the woods. A few weeks back, I was among friends indulging in a four-course meal amidst an elegant backdrop of luxurious interiors highlighting a beautiful display of cowrie shells all around the restaurant. It felt like I was in a private dining place inside a hotel, complete with 5-star service!
For dinner, we were presented with a set menu. We had a choice of soup and main course. Let me apologize in advance kasi I was not able to take good shots of the food! My photos did not do justice to how mouth-watering these dishes were as they served us that evening.
SOUP: I chose this creamy yet light Fresh Mushroom Cappuccino made with wild mushroom, truffle foam, and herbed crouton. I was off to a good start.
SALAD: The deconstructed Maitre D' Caesear Salad was freshly made with so much love! Part of the memorable dining experience at Cowrie Grill is being treated to their outstanding tableside service. That night, preparation of the caesar dressing for our beautiful salad was the opening show.
MAIN COURSE: Surf and Turf A was my choice, composed of this super tender and perfectly grilled Angus beef rib with a de-shelled slipper lobser tail, served with a flavorful mixed mushroom risotto and a side of crisp garden veggies. There were three different yummy sauces to complement the steak, but the beef was already well-seasoned and juicy as it is!
DESSERT: Baked Alaska, for the win! I can't remember the last time I had one. The novel way they served this melange of sponge cake, ice cream and meringue in front of us - flambé with brandy, was the perfect sweet ending to our superb dinner. It was literally a cake on fire!
Not to be missed are these decadent mini Chocolate Crinkles served on a silver platter. Definitely one of the best I've had!
What makes dining at Cowrie Grill extraordinary is their renowned tableside service where specific dishes are prepared in the midst of diners with flair. It’s a sensorial treat like no other.
This tita rarely goes out on a Friday night, but the amazing meal and tableside service at Cowrie Grill made me want to stay there longer, to savor every bite of the steak and unwind with a glass of wine for the rest of the evening. I really had a wonderful and satisfying meal. A feast for the senses!
Dining at Cowrie Grill is a gastronomical journey with its signature premier steak selections and seafood favorites -- Seared Duck Foie Gras or Escargot Au Beurre Persillé, and Lobster Bisque; other signature main dishes like Chateaubriand US Angus and US Angus Beef Striploin.
Thought you should know: Every Thursday, the Cowrie Grill offers an All-You-Can-Eat Premier Angus Beef Ribs, with standard side dish, for lunch or dinner for only at Php 3,500 nett per person. Good deal! I am already thinking of going back for a steak date with J. =)
