BLISS BOWLS, Deliciously Healthy Smoothie Bowls

First Friday of the month: Foodie Finds / Healthy Food

I love fruit smoothies. My favorites are blended frozen strawberry-banana, ripe mango, and mango-banana combos. Sometimes, I add chia seeds and honey in the mix. When juicing and green smoothies became a fad, I never got into it mainly because I didn't like the idea of drinking and mixing raw veggies in my fruit shakes. Hindi lang ako sanay na iniinom ang gulay unless it's in soup form. But I know they're healthy. Then came these power breakfast smoothie bowls that I see posted on Instagram. It got me curious but have never tried one before until BLISS BOWLS opened.

I'm embarrassed to admit, but I didn't really know what's in a smoothie bowl aside from it having a mix of fresh fruits and veggies with toppings. My idea of a smoothie is a cold slushy drink and not one to be eaten from a bowl. But they all look so pretty and mukhang masarap kasi.

Ano ba talaga ang "smoothie bowl"?
Smoothie Bowls are thick smoothies made with different combinations of fruits, veggies, nuts, and other healthy ingredients that you eat from a bowl, finished off with an assortment of natural toppings. It's now one of the biggest (breakfast) health food trend.

I didn't really bother learning about this type of nutritious "meal" and never attempted to make one. I was hoping there's a restaurant where I could just order and try one. That's exactly what happened late last year, and to tell you the truth, it got me so excited.

My friend Pam, who was already experimenting and successfully making her homemade smoothie bowls for her family, announced that she will be opening a smoothie bar in SM Megamall! Finally, makaka-tikim na rin ako ng smoothie bowl! =)

"I've been making smoothie bowls for my family for over a year and even my kids love it. One day, I told my husband I wish there was a smoothie bowl bar at the mall. And then we thought, why not open one? I already developed a few recipes anyway."

Together with her brother and cousins, they started their company, Kitchenkoncepts Inc. and launched BLISS BOWLS, the first smoothie bowl bar in Manila, which opened in January 2017.

BLISS BOWLS are made with 100% pure fruit, vegetable, and superfood smoothies. No ice, no water, no dairy or sugar added.

I was able to try their delicious creations with our friends last Tuesday as we shared four of the BLISS BOWLS specialties. We got extra toppings pa kaya hindi na masyadong nakita yung colorful smoothie base. =)

GREEN DREAM - Php260
Bliss Bowls' signature green bowl made with spinach, mango, banana, organic chia seeds, and fresh coconut water. Each bowl is topped with granola, coconut flakes, slices of banana and strawberry. Green Dream has anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties, helps promote weight loss and achieve flat belly.
Here, we added goji berries and almond slivers.

BERRY BLISS - Php199
Best-selling bowl of strawberries, beets, banana, and fresh coconut water, topped with granola, coconut flakes, sliced banana and strawberry. This bowl helps boost performance, endurance, and immunity.
Here, we added flax seeds, chia seeds and cashew nuts.

AMAZING KALE - Php260
Refreshing blend of kale, chlorophyll-packed spirulina, banana, mango, chia seeds, coconut or almond milk, topped with mango and banana slices, granola and coconut flakes. The power combo of kale and spirulina makes this a superfood smoothie bowl.
We added goji berries.

CACAO KISS - Php260
This delightful chocolate bowl is a mix of banana, strawberries, unsweetened cocoa, nut butter, coconut or almond milk, topped with granola, banana and strawberry slices, and coconut flakes.
We loaded it up with almond slivers, chia seeds, cacao nibs, and walnuts.

Choose from a variety of equally healthy and nutritious toppings:
Add P25 for each regular topping, P45 for each premium, and P65 for gold standard whey protein powder.

BLISS BOWLS also offer Superfood Bliss Balls by the pack, fresh Coco Water, Honey Ginger Tea, Ginger Cold Brew Tea, Chia Soy Mylk, Cashew Nut Mylk, and Almond Nut Mylk.

For someone who loves fruit smoothies and just had her very first smoothie bowl, believe me when I say that these BLISS BOWLS we tried were all super duper good, so delicious and nutritious, and fresh-tasting -- masarap lahat, promise! And to my surprise, my favorites turned out to be the green bowls pa: Amazing Kale and Green Dream! =)

Since they use frozen fruits, it's like a thick fruit shake and chocolate shake and tastes naturally sweet. Walang lasang gulay or damo, hahaha...which is what I always associate with green smoothies.

All the smoothie bases are vegan and nut-free(except Cacao Kiss) and has gluten-free options for toppings. That's guilt-free indulgence in every bowl. We shared these bowls as our lunch and I never expected to get so full. I think this was the single most healthy meal I've had, ever. My friends and I all left healthier and with happier tummies. Congrats, Pam and company! We'll definitely go back!

BLISS BOWLS smoothie bowl is the ideal power breakfast or lunch, and makes a refreshing dessert or snack. Busog na, healthy pa! It's best to go with family and friends so you can order different smoothie bowls to share and enjoy. Satisfy your smoothie bowl fix at Bliss Bowls now!
