My Bedtime Ritual and What Helps Me Fall Asleep

I am not a morning person. My family and friends know that about me. I have been that way since I was still studying. Somehow, my productivity starts by mid-morning, peaks by late afternoon until way past my bedtime. But what's my bedtime? It got crazy especially after I had kids. I know I still need my 8 hours, coz if I don't, you'll be talking to a "zombie  mom" with memory gaps along the way, heehee!



Over the years, I've tried different ways to improve my sleep-wake cycle while constantly adjusting to my changing lifestyle. I've taken melatonin supplements, drink milk before bedtime, watch TV until I doze off, or tire myself with afternoon workouts. I also found this helpful list:

  1. Stick to a sleep schedule - same bedtime and wake up time
  2. Practice a relaxing bedtime ritual
  3. If you have trouble sleeping, avoid naps, especially in the afternoon
  4. Exercise daily
  5. Evaluate your room
  6. Sleep on comfortable mattress and pillows
  7. Use bright light to help manage your circadian rhythms
  8. Avoid alcohol, cigarettes, and heavy meals in the evening
  9. Wind down
  10. If you can't sleep, go to another room and do something relaxing until you feel tired
From the list, I don't do 4, 5, 7, and 10. 

What I am doing for the past year now is to have a light snack, brush my teeth, apply my skin care regimen, and get settled in bed (if I don't have anything to write for the blog). I love my iPad mini, I can still review and edit my blog, browse through Instagram and chat with friends online while I'm comfy in bed. Doing this somehow relaxes me and helps me fall asleep too. Even if we're away on a holiday, I can still connect with my SmartBro. It's so convenient, I can bring it anywhere. 


And then there's the new iFlix. Did I mention we love a TV series marathon? Well, thanks to Smart, I can do that in bed! A LOT of our favorite foreign shows are now streaming and nahihilo nako which one to finish first! =) And subscription is only PhP99/month!

We're already done with Once Upon A Time and Agents of Shield. I'm currently into Arrow now.
