Chicken Charlie Take-out Lunch

There are days when we feel like just ordering in food. Okay, let me re-phrase that -- I feel like NOT cooking food.  Last Saturday was one of those days and I decided I'd just order from this fairly new food outlet in our neighborhood called Chicken Charlie.

I've been wanting to try our their chicken since late last year when they opened this seemingly hole-in-the-wall eatery in our own "little Chinatown" in San Juan city. Finally, I was able to taste their delicious fried chicken for lunch with the whole family.
Drumsticks in regular and spicy (marked with toothpicks) flavors
Here's what I ordered for our family of 4 adults and 2 kids:
  • 4 pcs. chicken wings - combo of regular and spicy = P99
  • 6 pcs. chicken drumstick - combo of regular and spicy = P289
We all loved the crispiness of the chicken and moist meat inside. It smells so appetizingly good too! They were not oily at all and the sweet-salty coating has just the right blend of flavors and spices. The wings were a bit small, while the drumsticks were just big enough. I still go for the wings when eating chicken. :)

One thing I noticed though was that while biting through the drumstick, the meat was starting to taste bland. Maybe not enough marinating time? I realized the flavors were all on the skin. As hubby puts it, you have to go at it in one bite, skin and meat together, to appreciate the chicken. But overall, I still enjoyed my meal of 2-piece Chicken Charlie spicy wing and regular drumstick, with corn on the cob and rice! Yum!

By the way, they don't have delivery (from San Juan) so you can either dine in or order take-out.
