Halloween Trip and Treats Party Planning

It's the Halloween weekend and I'm sure there will be a lot of spooky-fun revelries around the globe. As I've mentioned in my past Halloween posts, we never really prepare for this event since it's not traditionally celebrated in my family. My kids only joined the fun at school parades or when they invited to go trick-or-treating. Anyhow, my boy and I just had our most memorable Halloween party yet, courtesy of Oreo!

Fun Friday: Halloween Costumes Flashback

Third Friday of the month: Events / Celebrations / Halloween

It's mid-October and we're already seeing tons of fun, cute, scary costumes for halloween on display. Back in the day, we never made a big deal out of halloween -- in fact, we never celebrated it. It was only until I had kids and they started school that they had halloween parades. Naturally, they went to school in costume. We are just so lucky to have relatives abroad who are so generous and thoughtful to send the kids cool costumes to wear. I never really made much effort to dress them up and tried to keep things simple. Same as the halloweens past, this year's costumes will probably be a replay.

As they look forward to upcoming halloween parties, I looked back at how they dressed up before. It's flashback Friday for me once again as I reminisce, and delight at how they've grown and changed through the years -- in their halloween costumes.

The girl have not decided if she'll be Elsa (our own gown design up top), or take 3 with Cleopatra. For the boy, it's gonna be his trusty old Harry Potter robe and specs.

Kid-Style: Best in Filipiniana 2014

Noong panahong ako ay isang mag-aaral, ipinadiriwang ang Linggo ng Wika tuwing buwan ng Agosto sa buong bansa. Ang paggamint ng wikang Filipino ay simbulo ng pagkakaisa sa pamamagitan ng komunikasyon. Ito ay isang pagkakataon upang ipagmalaki ang ating mayamang kultura at pagkakakilanlan. Mula 1997, ang dating Pangulong Fidel Ramos ay gumawa ng Proklamasyon Bilang 1041 at ginawang Buwan ng Wika ang Agosto.  Ito ay bilang pagkilala rin sa tinaguriang "Ama ng Wikang Pilipino", ang dating pangulong Manuel Quezon, na ipinanganak sa buwan ng Agosto, at siya ring nagsulong ng paggamit ng wikang Filipino. Sa pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Wika, maraming kaganapan sa mga paaralan tulad ng balagtasan, pagtutula, pagsasayaw, at kabilang na rin ang masaya at makulay na parada ng mga kabataang naka-kasuotang Pilipino.

Kid-Style: Halloween Costumes 2012

Happy Halloween!

The kids are so lucky these days... with lots of costume parties and treats to usher in halloween.  In my time, we never even celebrate it.  I only get to see Halloween parties on American TV shows.  Well, times have changed, and I wouldn't want to let my kids down.  So here they are, jumping on the halloween bandwagon with the costumes they requested this year.

Unbeatable trio from my girl's class = Catwoman, She-Devil, and Cleopatra

A cross-breed of Skeletor and Grim Reaper, bwahahahaha...

Whether it's DIY costumes, made-to-order, or RTW, it's a chance for the youngsters to express themselves, play dress-up, be in character once a year and just have some fun!

Kid-Style: Best in Filipiniana

Five Fridays for August... today is the fourth... time for Freestyle Friday!

I can't believe I have not posted a special Kid-Style feature in over a year!

Since August is also the National Language Month - "Buwan ng Wika", schools celebrate with cultural programs with kids garbed in their best Filipiniana costume.  It used to be just Linggo ng Wika (national language week) in my time, but now the commemoration is the whole month of August.  Why August?  It's the birth month of former president Manuel L. Quezon (August 19), who is considered the father of the national language (Ama ng wikang pambansa), so it's like a tribute to him as well.

In line with Buwan ng Wika, KID-STYLE presents these adorable children in their most creative, most formal, traditional, and fabulous Filipiniana attire. =)

Our First Christmas Ballet Concert

"A Christmas Ballet Concert", featuring the Steps Dance Project, combines fluid dance interpretations of classic Filipino Christmas songs and excerpts from Peter Tchaikovsky's classic ballet, The Nutcracker.



We got an advanced Christmas treat last Saturday as my family was invited to this wonderful ballet show by Steps Dance Project, presented by Ayala Malls, in cooperation with Ipanema and Grendha footwear.  I immediately confirmed for the first scheduled matinée show at Glorietta and was quite excited to bring the kids to watch our first ballet concert at the mall.

Kid-Style: Holloween Cuties 2010

Holloween hang-over? Well, I'm sure a lot of kiddies out there haven't had enough of their treats yet and are still hanging on to their colorful, over-the-top, or whimsical costumes!

My boy had a change of heart and insisted on wearing his macho Transformer BumbleBee suit (which he has obviously outgrown -- check the hem!) instead of the fairly new Harry Potter gear.  So guess who got lucky to take on the wizard's cloak?

Harry Potter is in the house!

It's gonna be a happening Holloween weekend this year and the boy and the girl could not wait 'coz they missed last year's revelry.  Problem is, the girl is already eying on being a darker character this time and is hell bent on snatching away big brother's black cloak!

THIS is Harry Potter's cloak -- part of the boy's wizard costume set. This is his latest look courtesy of auntie A (who generously 'supplied' their terrific costumes for the past 3 years!)

Transformer's Bumble Bee and Ironman are currently in hiatus so I was really pushing for Harry this year. At first, the boy still pictured himself in either one of his anatomically-correct-upper-body-muscle-padded superhero costumes. After much prodding, he eventually began to appreciate and take on the character of the lead wizard from the house of Gryffindor.

THE CONFLICT:  Little girl is dampening his mood and trying take over the wardrobe for herself. She is Tinkerbell no more!

"It's mine!!!" 

The mischievous little She-Devil got her way one time, here in the same dark cloak paired with her blinking red horns (which also belongs to the boy!), at her school's Trick or Treat party.

Let's see who gets to wear this 'magical' cloak on Holloween. The Wizard or Lucifer's minion?

'Ironman' and 'Tinkerbell' Missed The Treats

 
Who were you wearing for Holloween?

We missed sending the kids to 'Trick or Treat' yesterday. Sad, yes. We did had a plan for the day. But it was not meant to be. And with the early morning howler winds banging on our roof, gate and windows, electricity was cut off across the region with the expected typhoon over the weekend. And it was just too bad for us having those automatic, electronic roll-up gates, and therefore, we can't get the car out so we're on house arrest for the day. Although we can crank it up manually in cases of emergencies, we just opted to stay put and have some family bonding time.

By noon yesterday, the boy and girl were cajoled by dad to change into their costumes just to keep their spirits up. We knew they were really counting the days, 10 months to be exact, 'til Holloween just to be able to wear their costumes ever since they received them as gifts in December of 2008. Thanks to my dear cousin Avie, they became their fantasy characters for a day.  Let the pictures do the talking.

It seems Tinkerbell thew a fit and does not want to share the spotlight with Ironman...watch out Ironman, she may zap you to pieces with that mighty toothbrush!

This was actually the second time my boy wore his Ironman costume. The first time was on a sunny Sunday in September at my mom's place, it was just for kicks. He can't stop posing in it!  Excuse the Crocs sandals here...shiny red boots would have been more fierce.

Having a monologue while still holding on to the new pink toothbrush we just bought a day earlier.

 

I just love the effect of the tulle-layered skirt and the detachable fancy wings of this frothy number by Disney.

My little fairy being playful with our poodle Sushi...actually, she was shooing the dog away as it got fixated with the tulle on her skirt and want to have a bite of it! Hehehe...

After the run-around, Sushi can still pose for the camera!

Our stay-at-home Holloween turned out pretty nice after all despite missing out on the glitz and treats, and spending the day sans power. We did manage to give the kids some good old-fashioned fun -- teasing and running with the dog, giving horsey rides, rough-housing in bed, playing video games, settling down with a few good books while munching on cheesy tortilla chips, and finally, dinner with a bucket of savory, finger-lickin' good KFC with mashed potatoes on the side! Pure, simple joys.

Thankfully, the typhoon waned and we did have a happy holloween after all, and all is well at the homefront.

P.S.
We were wondering why Tinkerbell's wings were not flapping...it was worn upside down! And we just realized it when she requested to wear it again today, Nov. 2. 
Now it's flapping as she prances around. See and compare from the shots above ;)
