My 3 Things: Cleanse, Care, Conceal

#my3things #bodycare

I am not very particular about body products, but I still want good quality. As long as they are non-drying, delivers their promise, and don't irritate my skin, I'm good with it. Over the years, I've also received so many skin care products as gifts, and I've tried and used most of them. Here are three of the latest that I'm using to cleanse my body, care for sensitive spots, and conceal imperfections.

My 3 Things: Facial Care

#my3things #facecare

When it comes down to the bare essentials for my face, I stick with these three.  I have other cleansing and moisturizing products I rotate, but it can't get any more basic than this.  Here are my 3 things for basic facial care.

  1. Physiogel Cleanser - Since I started have super dry skin the past few years, I've stuck with this mild, hypoallergenic cleanser recommended by the derma and many of my friends. I use this twice a day and I was really glad they came out with a pump bottle!  This soap-free formula is gentle even for babies and can be wiped away with a cotton pad or facial tissue, no need to rinse with water.  (I still prefer to wash it away with water though, heehee.)
  2. Cure Natural Aqua Gel - Click on the name and you'll see how I raved about this water-based exfoliant from Japan.  It's my twice-weekly skin care habit, and I'd use it everyday if it was recommended! My skin just feels cleaner, smoother, and clearer after using Cure.
  3. Physiogel Intensive Cream - Aside from different anti-aging creams, I use this all-around face cream for day and night since it's not heavy.  It's especially effective on very dry spots around the face so I feel moisturized instantly.
Until I can find a better anti-aging skin care system, I'm sticking with the basics.  What's yours? #my3things #facialcare

My 3 Things: SoMoms Neva and Janice

#my3things #SoMoms

For my third quarter installment of My 3 Things with the SoMoms, here are two mompreneurs in the group, sharing their on-the-go essentials.

It's nice to see the contrast between these two as one can be considered a freshman mom to two young tots, while the other is nurturing her brood of three, which includes a teen.  Here are Neva's and Janice's #my3things.

Neva's #my3things

Breastmilk is best for babies, that's why I strive to pump wherever and whenever I can! I'm really happy that the office I work in has a cool privacy room that moms in our office can use.  My pumping sessions are my mini-breaks from a busy day at the office too.  I always look forward to my pumping sessions and use it to catch up on my reading or FB!  Here's the stuff I need for pumping:

  1. Light reading (magazines or a book) - I like Mindy Kaling's new book, it's an easy read :)
  2. Shaparee Ella Handsfree Bra - a friend bought this from Mamababylove and gave it to me as a gift.  Hands-free pumping rocks!
  3. Manilababy Wet Bag - stores my pump accessories, the bra, a small towel and breastmilk bags.  It's what I carry from my work station to our office's privacy room where I pump (milk).

Janice's #my3things

My 3 Things are essentials from my last family trip abroad. We were away for three weeks and experienced different weather conditions- sunny and hot days, rainy weather, and cold, dry days. These three things are part of my travel essentials:

  1. Sunnies - Never go on a trip without sunnies. It not only protects your eyes but keeps you looking decent and cool even when your eyebag ridden because of jetlag. Did you also know that wearing sunnies also lessens chances of wrinkles on your face? Well because when you squint because of the sun, you get wrinkly around your eyes and forehead and doing this often they say, can actually cause premature wrinkles! I got this pair, Rayban Clubmasters, during my trip and I love the combination of beige and orange.
  2. By Nature Baby Salve - I always keep this handy at all times and during my trip was not an exception. It's made of natural ingredients and I used it as a lip balm for my whole family! Even with the extreme weather conditions, it kept our lips from chapping.   I also used it as a moisturizer when we would get occasional dry patches of skin due to cold weather, and i used it to soothe itchy skin from rashes or insect bites, even as a first aid for small wounds.
  3. Mustela Agua de Colonia - I brought this entire spray bottle with me on the trip along with a small atomizer to carry in my shoulder bag. The scent is light and fresh, I used this on myself and my 3 kids, even my teen boys since the scent is more refreshing than it is dainty. For the trip I took a break from my usual cologne and just sprayed this light cologne on myself several times during the day. It kept us smelling and feeling refreshed whether it was warm, cool or rainy.

My 3 Things: Kid-essentials

#my3things #kidessentials

My 3 Things for today is mainly for kids since it's back to school this month.  But these can be in any adult's bag too.  I'm running through my children's checklist of things to bring everyday, whether we're packing their bags for school or planning to go out with them.  We have these three essentials we don't leave home without:
  1. Aquazorb Towel - Pink towel for the girl, and blue one for the boy.  It's pretty obvious this set belongs to the girl. My sis-in-law gave my kids 2 sets of these hand towels - personalized with their names embroidered on the towel.  Comes in handy when my active twosome gets all sweaty as the towel is highly absorbent and soft on the skin.
  2. Giggles Baby Wipes - It's a must for parents like me to carry a pack of wet towels anywhere we go.  Convenient, disposable, all-around cleaning towel.  Ideal for wiping babies' and kids' bum.  We can't always be in proximity to a wash room when we're out, so just pull out some wipes and our hands are clean.  Perfect to wipe dirty surfaces and utensils when dining out too!
  3. Bobble Water Bottle - The most important of the three is a bottle of water.  This is self-explanatory.  I received this Bobble last summer and the girl immediately wanted it for herself.  It's a challenge to pull up the spout and sip from it but it's the perfect size for her, and uniquely fitted with a built-in water filter so I'm always assured of clean drinking water for my girl.
Do you have these in your bag too? What are your #my3things #kidsessentials?

My 3 Things: Fragrance

#my3things #fragrance

Summer season.  I have observed that I consume more body sprays or colognes during this season.  Maybe with the warm weather, I just want to feel cool and fresh all day.  Who wouldn't, right? I only have a few bottles on my dresser, half of which are gifts, and I'm not complaining.  In fact, I'm lucky I like most of them, and I really use them alternately, depending on my mood, of course.

If you've been following my blog and Instagram, you know how #my3things work.  Here are my summer scents of the moment:
  1. pureDKNY - A Drop of Rose - Floral and feminine:  This is my second pureDKNY bottle, and I must say, this line of fragrance from DKNY has grown on me.  After my fave Drop of Vanilla, this Turkish rose in a bottle is unexpectedly light and delicate - not the common, strong rose-scented perfumes that give me a headache.  It fades with a light powdery sweet note.  During these warm days, when I'm feeling girly and sweet, A Drop of Rose is my scent of choice.  It can  go from day to night.
  2. Mustela Agua di Colonia - Cool and baby fresh:  I have not used baby cologne for the longest time, so it was such a delight to receive this wonderful bottle of alcohol-free everyday spray that I get to share with my kids.  Admittedly, I use this more than they do, spaying as often as I like, heehee!  It brings me back to my younger years, with that fresh-out-of-the-shower scent.  This is a perfect pick-me-up to feel refreshed on a hot and humid day.
  3. Gap Blue - Citrus and crisp: Literally, this is an old bottle - a gift from my mother eons ago.  I really am amazed a how the simple and crisp scent remained even after over a decade!  This proves I'm not a heavy user of fragrances. I love how young and vibrant this smells, perfect for days when I'll be on the go all day, or when I'm feeling preppy or sporty.
Do you have a favorite summer scent? What's your #my3things #fragrance?

My 3 Things: SoMoms Jackie and Fleur

#my3things #SoMoms

As promised, I will be featuring my fellow SoMoms' My 3 Things here.  After sharing their three things, I found that we like and use the same stuff!  I guess it reflects our similar lifestyles and interests, being all moms and active on social media.

Last time, I shared Jen's and Jenny's, and today, here are Jackie's and Fleur's #my3things.

Jackie's #my3things

Here's a photo of my 3 things.  These are the 3 gadgets that I use for blogging and doing my online activities such as shopping & sharing photos of myself, my family, and the things I find pretty and relevant.

  1. Macbook laptop - It has been with me since 2010 and this also somehow "launched" my blogging mojo' coz I documented my purchase of it and shared it on my blog.  Although I like this, I'm thinking of selling it to buy a lighter one - perhaps a Macbook Air, one that I can bring along wherever I'm mobile.
  2. Canon G12 - I've always wanted an SLR camera, but the weight and bulkiness have always pulled me back from buying one. So, Mr. GJG and I decided to get this camera instead.  Somehow it's a point & shoot with DSLR features.
  3. iPhone - I'm an Instagram addict, and being online 24/7 has become part of my offline life.  Ironically crazy I know!

Fleur's #my3things

Here are my three things that I absolutely need when I go to the beach.  Obvious ba na super ayaw ko sa sun!? LOL! It's because of the vitiligo on my face near my eyes.  Hindi siya pwedeng maarawan, dadami daw.  I don't like... kaya kulang na lang, takpan ko buong fez ko whenever we go swimming.

  1. Big hat from Apostrophe - I love this hat because aside from mukha akong donya while wearing this, it covers most of my face from the sun. Yun lang, I have to be careful while wearing this kasi naman talagang waley na ikaw makikita because it's too big lol. Nevertheless, it's perfect for me!
  2. Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunnies - This pair is my absolute favorite. Parang hindi siya na-lalaos di ba?
  3. Beach hut 75 SPF sunblock - This is the winner among the three items I need para hindi tuluyan maging egay sa beach. This is the sunblock with the highest SPF that I could find. I have to put this an hour before sumabak sa sun.

My 3 Things: SoMoms Jen and Jenny

#my3things #SoMoms

When I launched My 3 Things on the blog, it also got me curious with the usual stuff my friends use, or consume.  We share images of things we see and like on social media, especially on Instagram, and it gives me a glimpse of their various interests and tastes.  We influence each other with the things we post online, and exchange thoughts and opinions too.  It's actually a lot of fun.  With that, I thought of asking my fellow Mommy Mundo SoMoms to share their own #my3things here on the blog.

Here are Jen's and Jenny's #my3things.

Jen's #my3things

The first time I laid eyes on the matte colors of Zoya and knew that they were chemmies-free, I was hooked.  But I was too cheap to buy them full price!  I was quite lucky because when I first heard of them, they were fairly new.  They had several flash sales (buy two take 1, free shipping, etc.).  I took this chance because it allowed me to buy without (too much) guilt.  I have over 20 (I think!) shades!  I have around 4-6 more on the way!!!

  1. Zoya nail polish -- because the formula is free of toluene, formaldehyde, DBP (phthalates) and camphor; doesn't stain my nails either!
  2. Zoya nail polish remover - works so well to remove nail polish
  3. Nail file - keeps my nails groomed

Jenny's #my3things

It's already summer and we have a couple of beach trips lined up!  These are the three things that I make sure are in my beach or pool bag to ensure our health and safety during the hot summer months!

  1. Kor Water Bottle - I simply ask the resort to refill my water bottle.
    • Cheaper - no need to buy bottled water
    • Eco-friendly - won't add to the plastic bottles littering our seas
    • Portable - hard durable plastic; no danger of breakage, plus BPA-free and very handy with a great drinking spout
  2. Mustela Protective Cream - excellent sunblock! It provides great coverage and prevents me from getting darker.  My kids also use this and is not harsh on their delicate skin.
  3. Canon D10 - waterproof, shockproof.  This camera has been with us for more than 5 years.  Bulky but very durable.  Recorded N's water videos from year 1 and is now being used to record E's videos.  Perfect to preserve our beach memories

My 3 Things: Beauty

#my3things #beauty

I've written about it a few times on this blog - I'm far from being a beauty junkie.  You count on your fingers the number of times I've talked about cosmetics here.  Funny thing is, if you saw my maiden post on My 3 Things, you will see that my very first #my3things photo happens to be my basic make-up kit.  Of course, there will be days when I'll be in the mood to try a different lip color, put on more coverage, or even try to open up my eyes more (wishful thinking). =)

On those odd days, this happens:
  1. BYS Lipgloss & Lipstick Duo - I received my first set of BYS cosmetics last month and I fell in love with their lipsticks!  Its matte finish is soft and still glides smoothly on the lips.  No dry, flakey feeling even after hours without touch ups.  Look here, the color held up even after having my lunch and afternoon snack.  I can finally give my lip shimmers a break for now and make room for these fantastic Australian-brand lipsticks.
  2. Eye of Horus Natural Mascara - Last November, I received a surprise beauty gift box from Glamourbox.  The box contained an assortment of samples from premium cosmetic brands and I took this out first 'coz I have not bought a fresh tube of mascara in ages.  It's not a sample size but the full-sized tube! I know I rarely use one, but after trying it, I think I can start adding a coat of this light, natural mascara to my basic make-up routine.
  3. Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream - This is my all-in-one anti-wrinkle cream foundation / concealer / sunscreen which I use during special occasions, or when I'll be out the entire day.  Considering some sun exposure, this is so convenient to use since I don't have to pile on a separate sunscreen and foundation.  I like the smooth finish and full coverage that stays put the whole day.  I alternate this BB cream with my favorite mineral face powder.
Ladies, do you have a favorite make-up product? What's your #my3things #beauty?

My 3 Things: Photography

#my3things #photography

Cameras.  The tools of the trade.  In my case, these are my "tools" for blogging, and more importantly, to capture life's moments.

If you've been following my blog and social networking sites, you know I enjoy taking pictures - the pathological picture-taker, that's me! =)  Then came Instagram, my current craze and where #my3things began.

As a hobby, for my blog, for sharing images on social media, I alternately use all three cameras (well, one happens to be a phone with a cam):

  1. Canon EOS 500D (Rebel T1i) - I started blogging in 2009 and used a Lumix TZ3 for my photos.  By the end of that year, I got my wish - a dSLR as a Christmas gift for myself.  I love it!  It's user-friendly, takes crisp images, and the weight is lighter than most dSLR.  I often use this baby during social events (blog events included), trips, and family celebrations.
  2. Lumix LX5 - After two years of toting the bulky 500D everywhere, I knew I wanted a more compact camera since our old Lumix broke.  We don't have a spare camera except hubby's iPhone.  Besides, he doesn't like using the big one either.  Christmas of 2011, we got our second Lumix.  Features and picture quality are outstanding as well. And I like that it's white.
  3. iPhone4 - I'm a late bloomer when it comes to smart phones.  I just had one last July and it changed me forever! =) Instagram is my stress reliever.  Somehow, looking at IG photos relaxes me and puts me in a good mood...and helps me get sleepy at night too, hahaha! With the built-in camera, I can now take pictures of whatever, anytime, anywhere, and sharing them instantly on my social network.  The apps are just as fun to use!

Are you a shutter bug like me? What's your #my3things #photography?

My 3 Things: Spreads

#my3things #breakfast

We are not big on breakfast, and I personally don't prepare a full spread for the family.  When I was in college until my early years of working, my mother served rice meals in the morning.  They're usually left-overs the night before or the regular breakfast fares of bacon, luncheon meat, or hot dog with rice!

After I got married, breakfast for us has been bread with a variety of spreads, with a warm cup of coffee or chocolate drink.  Oatmeal and eggs cooked in different ways are a staple too, but most days, we're good with sliced bread and our favorite spreads like peanut butter.

  1. Biscoff Spread - Lately, my girl and I have been sharing this jar.  This cookie butter craze hit us big time, and we're hooked!
  2. Peanut Butter - My boys still prefer peanut butter - Skippy here is gluten-free too.
  3. Nutella - I, on the other hand, break the usual cycle with Nutella.

I tried my boy's all-time favorite breakfast and snack - Peanut Butter - Banana French Toast with Nutella and Biscoff, and they're equally delicious! Try it out!

What's your #my3things #breakfast?

My 3 Things

#my3things

That's the hashtag I use when I post photos of random groups of stuff I regularly use, or consume.
My basic accessories.

I enjoy taking photos immensely - did I mention I'm a self-confessed pathological picture-taker and also an Instagram addict? =)  Whatever catches my fancy, I try to take a snapshot.  I love taking photos of food, articles of clothing, accessories, nature, and especially my kids.  However, since both are getting older, and my girl will be in big school soon, I am now trying to avoid sharing frontal shots of them to keep their privacy.  Since I'll be sharing less of my kids (particularly their faces) and myself here, might as well share more of the things around me, right?

Last month, I re-posted this photo below on my Facebook page when I decided to add My 3 Things as a new section in the blog.  This was my first #my3things post on Instagram last October.  I thought I was the first to use the #my3things hashtag, but discovered there were two other Igers who used the hashtag before me.  Anyway, I knew I wanted to post more of my 3 things.

How it all started:

It was a typical school day, and while in the car on my to fetch the boy, I usually apply my basic make-up:
  1. Kate Mineral Powder Foundation
  2. Burt's Bees lip shimmer
  3. Lash Curler
On the spot, I took this shot and wrote:  3 things #FOTD everyday (for those not familiar, FOTD is "face of the day").  I then added the hashtag #my3things since I want to tag this and post more group shots on IG.

Second #my3things post with the usual colors you'll see me wear on a typical day:
  1. White top
  2. Blue jeans
  3. Vieta brown bag
That's me.  (OOTD is "outfit of the day")

Third #my3things post last New Year's Eve:
  1. Vieta brown bag - bought on sale last October
  2. Braun Buffel - my 10-year-old wallet
  3. Longchamp - roomy red coin purse, a gift
May they always be full this 2013...

The top photo was my most recent #my3things post.
  1. Tag Heuer - watch was part of the engagement gift almost 11 years ago, and J has the men's size.
  2. Pearl studs - gift from my mother
  3. Wedding ring - my hand just feels different without it on my finger
I use them together almost every day since these accessories can go with anything I wear.

The objective is simple:
To shoot and share photos of groups of things that I use together or consume regularly.
