Eyebrow Microblading at Skin House Beauty and Laser Clinic

I took the plunge. I had microblading procedure at Skin House Beauty and Laser Clinic for eyebrows on fleek. =) I'm late in the game when it comes to eyebrow aesthetics kasi I never had any concerns on that part of my face until two years ago. After college, I just pluck stray hair to maintain the shape of my brows and that's it. In 2016, I learned about microblading from friends who have undergone this procedure. It got me very interested coz you'll literally wake up to perfect brows everyday!

It was not until the end of 2015 that I started to be more conscious about my brows and made an effort to apply eyebrow liners. After attending a makeup workshop in 2016, I started to appreciate the difference a well-shaped and filled kilay makes. Mas napansin ko na bitin talaga ang kilay ko and some hair that I plucked never grew back na. Age matters! Feeling ko nabawasan na rin ang kilay ko as I grew older, hahaha! Hindi na makapal ang kilay ko.

Look at my "kilay transformation" below! I've used K-Palette 2-Way Eyebrow liner since the start.

Creating symmetrical, well-defined eyebrows requires effort and patience with your preferred makeup. I have to admit, nag-e-enjoy naman ako sa pagki-kilay. But it does take some time to achieve that perfectly groomed eyebrows every single time. Microblading is the solution to waking up with brows on fleek.

The idea of being "cut" by a blade scared me. But when I asked around for feedback from friends, most had a positive experience and the results of microblading were impressive. Last year, I was already toying with the idea to have mine done too. Then, as if the universe heard my thoughts, Skin House Beauty and Laser Clinic got in touch with me last January and offered their eyebrow microblading service. New year, new kilay, hehehe! Of course, I jumped at the opportunity and immediately scheduled my initial consultation.

"Skin House Beauty and Laser Clinic is an advanced medical aesthetics center, run by a team of trained and certified professionalsthat offers a wide array of non-invasive cosmetic procedures.

Let me share my personal experience, what you need to know and what to expect from eyebrow microblading.

What is EYEBROW MICROBLADING?

"A form of semi-permanent makeup that uses a manual technique to recreate hyper-realistic eyebrows. The symmetry of the eyebrows is taken into consideration and done according to the natural facial shape and golden proportion." - PhiBrows
  • Should be performed by a trained and certified brow artist
  • Procedure involves implanting pigment under the skin, just above the dermis
    • Use of ultrafine or nano blades to give the appearance of real hair strands and make brows look as natural as possible
  • Microblading is for anyone who wants to correct their eyebrows or simply wants fuller, more natural brows without applying makeup (ideally 18 y.o. and up)
    • To have eyebrows that always look on point without the use of makeup
    • Saves time and effort from applying daily eyebrow makeup

PhiBrows is the pioneer and innovator in the hyper-realistic technique.
Learn about the full treatment description hereThey focus on the importance of symmetry.
Symmetry is achieved by using the PhiBrows app and is calculated while the clients’ eyes are closed - when mimetic muscles, which affects eyebrows’ symmetry, are relaxed.

Microblading is offered at Skin House Beauty and Laser Clinic and is only performed by Ms. Joanne Yu, an internationally-certified brow artist trained in Singapore and PhiBrows Academy London. The procedure costs Php15,000 including one retouch session. But we have a special offer for all of you at the end of this post! ;)

After seeing photos of her work, I felt assured that I will be in very good hands. I have to admit, I was nervous and excited at the same time during treatment day.

Before the procedure, consult with your artist regarding the following:
  • brow concerns
  • current skin and health conditions; any medications
  • current permanent makeup / tattoo on your eyebrows, if any
  • discuss pre- and post-treatment care
  • facility and tools to be used during procedure
  • skin patch test is optional (for any allergies)
  • not recommended to do treatment while ladies have their period -- there's increased sensitivity to pain at this time of the month
What to avoid at least 24 hours before microblading to minimize bleeding:
  • coffee / caffeine
  • alcohol
  • certain medications like Ibuprofen, Vit. E, and other blood-thinners
What to avoid 30 days before microblading:
  • facial treatments - laser, chemical peel, botox and fillers
  • fruit or lactic acids
  • creams containing regeneration factors
  • exposure to strong sunlight; no sun burn

What to expect during Microblading at Skin House:
  • Meticulous measurements and symmetry is calculated using PhiBrows application by certified artist
    • Photos and calculations are done while clients’ eyes are closed -- when mimetic muscles that affect eyebrows’ symmetry are relaxed
  • Option to use light topical anesthetics -- pain is relative
  • Expect some bleeding -- treatment may be halted or delayed since pigment will not retain on skin when there is bleeding
    • I completely forgot the reminder about not drinking coffee -- which I did that morning of the treatment, and so I had more bleeding half way through the procedure
    • The anesthetic also took longer to take effect on me
    • We had to discontinue coz pigment will not get absorbed and I also need to leave to fetch my kids
    • Joanne just finished off the treatment with shading the ends (which is also her specialty) just to make the brows look full
  • Treatment is done using sterile and disposable tools
  • Pigments used are of the highest standard (PhiBrows microblading pigments)
    • Applied manually in the surface layer of the dermis
    • Pigment closest to the natural color of the eyebrows and hair
  • Strokes are always drawn in the direction of natural hair growth to achieve hyper-realistic look
  • Procedure will take around 4 hours from measurements to cleansing

What to expect after initial Microblading at Skin House:
  • Pigment will be very dark during the first week
    • Do not try to fade it by yourself
    • After 7 days, it will lose up to 40% of its intensity and fades naturally
  • Complete healing is usually experienced after 4 weeks and retouching is necessary to correct and add pigment that was lost
    • Expect some peeling, minor scabs
    • Loss of pigment and some strokes during healing time
      • Use of eyebrow liner or powder to fill in gaps only after completely dry and healed
    • After healing, pigment can become a few shades brighter than natural hair color
  • Post-treatment care is a main factor of treatment success
    • Strictly follow cleansing procedure as prescribed
    • Proper rinsing, wiping, and applying of PhiShield ointment provided is vital
      • Apply ointment 3-5 times daily in the next 7 days
      • Expect some pigment and colored lymph fluids on the moistened wipes or swabs after cleaning
      • Excess lymph fluids should be gently wiped off to prevent formation of scabs
  • Microbladed brows typically lasts from 6 to 12 months before another touch-up is needed to maintain the look

What to avoid in the next 30 days after Microblading:
  • all creams (except the PhiShield), all makeup in and around eyebrow area
  • creams containing regeneration factors
  • activities that produce excessive sweating
  • facial treatments - laser, chemical peel
  • fruit or lactic acids
  • exposure to strong sunlight; no sun burn
  • antibiotics and hormonal therapy - causes faster fading of pigment
Lasts 6 months up to 12 months, depending on:
  • skin type and maturity - the oilier the skin, the shorter pigment retention
  • adherence to post-treatment care
    • I think my brows got wet too much during the first week kaya nag-fade agad yung pigment sa akin. Not following orders kasi ako! :D Good thing there wasn't too much scab and healing was smooth for me.
  • exposure to various external elements

You'll know that eyebrow microblading was done right when you can’t tell the difference between your natural hair and the recreated strokes. It's called the "hyperrealistic look -- where strokes follow the direction of the natural growth of the hair".

I am happy to report that everyone who saw me during this past month after the treatment said that my brows look natural. Thanks to Joanne and Skin House Beauty and Laser Clinic! I've already scheduled my retouching, so watch out for my updates on this post and over at my Instgram account with IG Stories. Tap highlights on #myKilayProject.

UPDATE:
Retouching done.
I went back after 7 weeks and eyebrows were made fuller and more even.

Below is the Phi App used to measure symmetry before and after the procedure. I had a better experience this time coz I followed the reminders prior to my appointment so I did not bleed as much as the first time. Post-treatment care was easier too since I already know what to expect, and healing was faster this time around.
