Foodie Friday: Masaganang Bagong Taon

First Friday of the month: Food and Dining

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!
I hope you all had a memorable and meaningful yuletide season spent with loved ones. Today is the first day of 2016 and the first Friday of the month. You know what that means -- Foodie Friday here on the blog. With that, I'd like to begin by giving thanks to the Almighty for a bountiful year that has passed, and hoping for continued abundance in the next twelve months.

The past month has been all about indulgence, so allow me to reminisce on the gastronomic delights enjoyed and shared among family and friends, here's a look-back at some of my more memorable #MomEats during our holiday festivities.

Wolf Blass Gold Label Cabernet Sauvignon -- one of the best reds I've had, thanks to my best gals who brought the drinks to our dinner party. This Aussie (gold)label is not easy to find locally, so leave me a note in case you spot one. :)

This Truffle Mushroom Belly from Manila Belly was the star of our noche buena. It was love at first taste during the Mothers Who Brunch event last November. Good thing my friends and I ordered early coz it was sold out before Christmas. The whole family raved about how tender and flavorful the belly was, capped with a very tasty and crunchy skin.

A day after Christmas, we celebrated the birthday of my MIL at Luk Foo Cantonese Restaurant on Shaw Blvd. Their specialties like the shrimp patties, birthday noodles, pata tim, and beef tenderloin definitely satisfied.

One unique dish we always order whenever we dine at Crystal Jade Shanghai Delight is their Crispy Eel. It's super crunchy and coated in a sweet glaze. Great as appetizers or even ulam. A must-order aside from their famous xiao long bao. The Steamed Cream Custard Bun with Salted Egg Yolk was a delightful revelation. First time to try this a few days ago and I instantly loved the warm custard-filled bun!

Crabs. We must have crabs -- either for Christmas eve or New Year's Eve dinner.  This was our 1.2kg fried crispy garlic crab, and another 700g crab in rice (not in photo), from King Crab House along P.Guevarra st., San Juan. They've been consistently our go-to restaurant whenever we crave for any crab dishes, and even fried frog legs! =)

For a family who has different tastes and preferences, one thing we all love is a good chocolate cake. For New Year's Eve media noche (midnight meal), I ordered this Dark Chocolate Caramel Crunch cake by Chef Christa for everyone to enjoy. This is definitely not your ordinary chocolate cake -- it's dark, dense yet moist, rich and decadent chocolate flavor complimented with that gooey-crunchy caramel center.  A perfect sweet ending to an amazing year!

Food, friends and family -- the center of every feast. Nothing beats a hearty meal shared with loved ones.

Here's to a prosperous and foodie-licious new year!
