Mom + Blogger + Unlimited Internet = BFFs

I am a mother. I am a homemaker. I am a blogger. I am borderline social media addict.
I need unlimited internet!

The mid-90s opened my world to the internet... okay, maybe some of you were still in diapers then, but let's not go into that! :p  And let me remind you, this was the time of dial-up internet and I just had an average of only 2 hours connection a day to surf and send emails! It was during this time that I got my first free email accounts, got Instant Messenger, and eventually led to more accounts like Edsamail, Gmail, and PLDTdsl. My work and home life will never be the same again.
Mobile wireless internet with Smart
Our first internet subscription was with PLDTmyDSL, and we're very happy with our connection at home. It helped me get in touch with what's happening "outside", especially after I became a mom in 2003. The internet became my daily companion at home, post-partum. I got hooked on social networking sites like Friendster, and then Facebook. I worked at home as a wedding and event planner on my free time, and having internet access has proved vital in creating my proposals and gathering online resources and references for my clients. In 2008, we moved to our present home with a different broadband provider that's serving the area. Hubby maintained his Smart mobile phone internet as a back-up home connection and on-the-road access.

In 2009, I began blogging and my online persona has evolved since then, giving me new avenues of opportunities in social media. Suffice to say, as a homemaker and blogger, unlimited internet connection is the lifeblood of my current lifestyle:
  • For searching school-related topics to help the kids with homework and tests
  • Getting recipes and finding new places to visit
  • Easy booking for travel and leisure
  • Convenient shopping for clothes, and more
  • Sharing photos and files to friends and loved ones
  • Allowing (unlimited and guided) access for kids to explore, play, and learn
  • Blogging, sharing and receive updates, and communicating through social networks
  • Reading blogs and other favorite sites for information, inspiration, and entertainment
  • Helping friends and clients who tap me for social media services

Home-Style: Seamless Duplex Remodeling

Freestyle Friday: Special Feature

A duplex house is defined as a dwelling having apartments with separate entrances for two families. This includes two-story houses having a complete apartment on each floor and also side-by-side apartments on a single lot that share a common wall. - Wikipedia

Today's Home-Style feature puts the spotlight on this formerly 150-sqm. duplex unit which was transformed into a 400+ sqm., 2-storey single house with a basement in 2007. The house sits on a 300 sqm. lot, nestled in a quiet village in Quezon City, owned by my co-parents from school. With two young kids and three dogs, this beautifully remodeled home has a generous living space for a growing family, that also accommodates A's and C's many personal hobbies and interests.

Family Friday: First Day of (Senior) Kindergarten

"She started school this morning,
And she seemed so very small.
As I walked there beside her
In the Kindergarten hall...
And I must share my little girl
With friends and work and play;
She's not a baby anymore --
She's in Kindergarten today."
(First Day of Kindergarten School Poem, author unknown)

Book project in school: Author's Page, from her book about birds

That poem above resonates with me.  First day of school is always bittersweet.
Next week, my girl will be in Senior Kinder (or whatever they're calling her level this year, due to the K+12 adjustment in school systems).  This will be her final year before going to the next (big school) level.

Her parachute experiment with the fan and a plastic bag

I have to confess... I'm the one who experienced more separation anxiety than the kids, especially during their first two years of going to school.  Before, I found myself lingering longer outside their classrooms, trying to take a peek though the viewing glass, wondering if they've settled in, or if they're still about to cry...those were the days.

My cousin, who's a pediatrician, once told me, "wag ka nang lumingon, umalis kana" (don't look back, just leave).  Therefore, I pass on the same advise to first-time "stage parents" when bringing your youngsters to school:  As soon as you bring them in, try to leave them as soon as you can, turn and walk away from the classroom, and don't look back. Oh yes, it's hard!

What I've observed is the more we linger, the more they cling and sometimes cry, knowing we're still there waiting and ready to take them away. You're lucky if your child is excited and quick to adjust to the new routine.  Eventually, they got older and know what to expect already. And I also got used to just dropping them off from the main entrance, or the gate! Hahahaha!

"Mommy, I'm not a baby anymore..." -- that's her standard retort as she smiles coyly, whenever I call her endearingly as "baby" or "baby girl". My reply is also standard: "I know... but you'll always be my baby girl!"

Moms and dads, have your little ones started school already?  How's your first day of school? :)

Swish Breath Spray for Instant Freshness

The title said it all. It's instant oral freshness with this newest breath spray from leading mouthwash brand, Swish.
SRP @ PhP 105 / 10ml spray

We are heavy users of Swish Mouthwash, so I really appreciate all the Swish samples I received from Unilab. Since, it's alcohol-free, the kids also use this mouthwash twice a day. Obviously, I did not hesitate to accept this trial pack of Swish Breath Spray sent over a month ago. We love Swish.

I can't recall if there was ever a local brand of breath spray being sold in the market.  After trying out this Swish Breath Spray, I knew this will surely be a hit since it's super convenient.  I even brought one along during our weekend excursion.

What's great about Swish Breath Spray:
  • Instant fresh breath in 10 seconds -- anytime, anywhere
  • Kills germs and bacteria in the mouth -- eliminates bad breath caused by eating, drinking, and smoking
  • Pocket-sized - very convenient, great for travel
  • Alcohol-free and sugar-free
  • Available in 2 refreshing variants – Arctic Chill and Peppermint Fresh
  • Very economical -- up to 100 sprays per bottle

This spray is perfect for J, who still smokes. Unfortunately, he still can't kick the habit. At least with Swish, he can freshen up with a quick spray after smoking.

Take this along anywhere, fits perfectly in a small purse, in your pocket, or your office drawer.  Simply spray 1 to 2 pumps into your mouth to freshen breath instantly. Get your own Swish Breath Spray from supermarkets, drugstores and convenience stores nationwide.

I am a big pasta eater, and so is my son.  So, it was but natural for me to include one pasta dish during our recently concluded Hunt's Mother-Child Cook-Off held during the Yummy Eats food fair last week.  And for today's Foodie Friday, I'm sharing the recipe of the pasta dish we have prepared during the cooking challenge.
