Lorys Duo Chocolate Hair Cream

Looks good enough to eat, don't you think so? =)
Thick, rich, and creamy choco-caramel... for the hair only!

My girl actually thought it's caramel sauce, and it really does look and smell like one. Lorys Hair Cream -- it's your Brazilian hair spa in a jar! It sounded so sexy I cannot wait to try it for myself as soon as I got the sample, hahahaha...  I gladly welcomed to try this deep moisturizing hair cream mainly because I am currently in a phase of changing my basic skin care and hair care regimen with more moisture-intensive products.

I don't have treated hair, and it's not damaged either. But my hair tends to be dull and pouffy even with regular use of conditioner. It's extra pouffy especially when I leave it to (air) dry after a shower.  You don't want to see me with my hair like that! In Tagalog, it's what we call "buhaghag".

I can never, ever leave the house with wet hair and just allow it dry. If I do need to go out, I have to use my straightening iron or blowdryer to style it, or you'll find my hair in the usual plain ponytail when in a rush.

Sorry I was not able to take a "before" shot.  But those who know me a long time can tell you that my naturally thick and wavy hair is really buhaghag on a regular day. I've been using Lorys for 4 weeks now and I'm very happy with how my hair looks after it dries.

This is how my hair falls with Lorys Duo Chocolate, even if I don't use a straightening iron or a blow dryer.  Lorys is richer than my regular conditioner so I guess that helped make my hair more tame and smooth, and the strands look more in place.

I just scoop a generous amount, apply on damp hair mainly on the ends, and leave for about 2 minutes before rinsing. I towel-dry and style as usual.

I am quite satisfied with my Lorys Duo Chocolate variant.  What I like about it:
  • Tames and smoothens my wavy, pouffy hair
  • Can be used as daily conditioner
  • Can be used as special conditioning treatment (like hot oil) - wrapped in hot towel or cap for 15 minutes
  • Gives intensive moisture, vitality, and shine to hair
  • Rich, thick, and mildly scented
  • Super affordable at only PhP 148 for 450g jar
SRP @ PhP 148 - 450g

Choose from other Lorys Hair Cream variants for your hair needs, like Snake Oil, Shea Butter, Fruit Cocktail, and Ceramides.  A pump bottle would make it more convenient to use though.

It also comes in a jumbo 1kg jar for only PhP 349 (approx. US$ 8)! Imported from Brazil, Lorys is available at leading department stores, drugstores, and supermarkets nationwide.

Family-Sized Lander is Perfect for Sharing + Raffle!

"A tightly-knit and well-bonded family develops when a family learns how to share. When every member of the family shares, everyone feels nurtured, cared for, and loved... In a culture that holds the family dear, sharing becomes an important value that must be kept alive and important in every family." - Lander
Lander liquid hand soap @ PhP 189.75 from Unimart

Ever since I started my own family, I became in charge of purchasing and budgeting for groceries, and household and personal care items. For most of these stuff -- cleaning agents, shampoos, liquid soaps, and the like, I always try to buy the biggest size available.  Why?
  • It's practical
  • More economical = value-for-money
  • Less containers = less junk
  • Promotes reuse of dispensers
  • Promotes sharing among family members
One classic example is our Lander Antibacterial Liquid Hand Soap.  I forgot when I bought that jumbo 1 liter pump above but it lasted for months, and we all love its fresh and light Green Tea and Chamomile scent that lingers after washing our hands. It rinses easily too. I bought it from Unimart and I just refill all our bathroom soap dispensers with this one big bottle. To stretch it further, I fill 1/4 of the dispenser with water before pouring in the liquid soap so it's not so thick. That's more economical don't you think? =)

And just when our liquid hand soap was about to run out (see top photo), I received a big bag of Lander Family-Sized Personal Care products, delivered to my doorstep.  Now, I have a spare bottle waiting, and so much more!
"Lander is a US-heritage brand that advocates family togetherness. The new look and new formula for this trusted brand, now best suits the needs of the Filipino homemaker and her family."

As soon as my girl saw the loot in the bedroom, she immediately asked what each one is and knew which one she wants! I hate to say it but this little lady has stinky feet, and she knows it! =)  With that revelation, she may want to kill me if she reads this a few years from now, but at least she has Lander to thank for this family-sized deo foot powder! LOL!!!

This full line of foot care products is for my husband and I to enjoy. What am I most excited about?
They all have peppermint!!!  I'm a sucker for anything minty when it comes to body oils, soaps and scrubs --  the cool tingling feeling, and minty-fresh smell makes them oh so relaxing and invigorating at the same time!

And did I mention we have this? :)))  Perfect 4-step foot spa at home with Lander!
"Lander seeks to provide every family with quality and affordable personal care products that will make the life of each member easier, better, and healthier. Each product carry the promise of love to be shared for everyone, with Family-sized Personal Care from Lander."
Many thanks to Lander for sponsoring this post and for sending me some of the most useful personal care products for my whole family!

Mom-Finds: Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Premium A/I

Last Friday of the month:  Finds and Faves / Beauty / Skincare

I've written about my low maintenance skin and beauty regimen several times in the blog so I am quite oblivious to the vanity products flooding the market. I simply rely on what I've been used to, or recommendations from my mother and trusted friends.  One brand that has been consistently in the "must-use" list is the renowned Japanese premium brand Shu Uemura.

Masatami Shave Ice for All Seasons

Nothing beats the summer heat like a day at the beach, taking a swim, and binging on your favorite frozen desserts and ice-cold beverages!

A few weeks ago, the kids, the nanny, and I were able to try Masatami Hawaiian Shave Ice and Masatami Flavored Shave Ice. My friend invited me to try their products when they opened in SM Mall of Asia, but it's just too far from our place.  Only recently, I learn they now have a branch at Robinson's Galleria which is a more convenient location for me.

I was itching to go but my girl and I have been nursing a terrible cough for weeks, which kept us from trying these frosty delights sooner. And when we finally did, it was such a hit!

Masatami Shave Ice closely resembles the popular icy snow cones, but this shaved ice dessert is much finer and have a smoother consistency similar to snow. According to Masatami, "the syrup added to the ice soaks into the densely packed shavings and does not sink to the bottom, creating the frozen treat".

When we got to the outlet, we ordered the colorful Hawaiian Shave Ice that the boy and the girl eagerly wanted to taste.

There were different flavors of syrup. I tasted Bubble Gum, Strawberry, Banana, Orange, Blueberry, with all the add-ons such as azuki beans, vanilla ice cream, and topped with the milky snow cap -- the works!

This large serving was layered in this cute flower-shaped green plastic cup that we got to take home and re-used.  There's a plastic spoon to scoop the shaved ice and fillings, and a straw to sip the melted milky ice! Our favorite syrup flavors are Bubble Gum and strawberry... or was it Cotton Candy? =)  It was fruity sweet, yet still refreshing.

We also enjoyed the large Buko Pandan Flavored Shave Ice which came with azuki beans, tapioca pearls, and nata de coco.  The flavors and textures in this cup perfectly complemented each other and it was quite filling too.

The kids loved this Buko Pandan flavor also, and even preferred this one over the multi-flavored Hawaiian.  They only liked it plain though, so I ended up eating all the toppings, heehee...

I missed taking a photo of how they make the shaved ice, but this unique shaving machine (below right) is what they use to create this smooth and frosty dessert.

All of us enjoyed our large cups that were just right for sharing. Each cup is also priced affordably and is a great alternative to the usual ice cream, iced coffee and milk tea. Masatami Shave Ice is perfect not just for hot summer days but all year round.

Next visit, I'm going to try the Lanka and Swiss Cheese Flavored Ice!

Visit Masatami Shave Ice at the following outlets:
SM Mall of Asia - South Arcade, Pasay City
Glorietta 4 Cinema, Makati City
Robinson's Galleria (fronting the supermarket), Quezon City
Masatami Shave Ice is also here on Facebook.

Fun Friday: Images of Summer

I can't believe summer season will be over in just less than two weeks! It seemed like only yesterday when the kids were counting down to their last day of school and looking forward to "doing nothing" all summer long.

This is my last Fun Friday post for the season and it would be nice to share this collection of images from our summer this year.

25 Random Things About Mom-Friday

Second Friday of the month:  Family / Personal Life

May is My Mom-Friday's blog anniversary month and I really did not plan on anything fancy this year. This humble blog of mine turned 3 years old last May 9.

After hitting a roadblock a couple weeks ago, I decided to check on my photos and browse old posts to get inspiration for today's entry. If you notice, I don't really post much photos of myself nor do I share personal stuff about me on the blog. I'm just not the type. So, to shake things up a bit, and as part of my blog anniversary, here's something that I thought you may like, or want (or wouldn't have wanted, hehe) to know. I've been meaning to re-post this old list, which I thought was gone forever after I deleted it from my Facebook Notes where I first wrote it, and from this blog.
Yes, it was published here already. Confused? Read on...

Foodie Friday: Kani Salad Roll-Up with Wasabi-Mayo

First Friday of the month:  Food / Recipe

We're all feeling the heat wave in this country and I just want to drink and eat something cold, or light and refreshing every single day.  There's no surprise to this post since the title said it all. And as I celebrate my 3rd blog anniversary this May, I thought it's nice to start the month with an ode to one of my most popular food posts -- kani salad (which, by the way, is currently #1 on Google search for 'kani salad'! Woot!)

In my recent trip to the grocery, I spotted a pack of tortilla and dropped it in my cart, not knowing what to do with it. When I got home, I found all the ingredients to make our favorite kani salad, which I already featured here, and planned to serve it for dinner. But I had another idea. Tortilla + kani salad... eureka!

It's gonna be a wrap for dinner! =) The whole family can help prepare this super simple and delicious roll-up -- no cooking required!  Just by looking at the photos, I'm sure you already know what you need and how to do this.

KANI SALAD ROLL-UP with WASABI-MAYO

Soft tortillas
Kani sticks (Japanese imitation crab meat), cut in half, length-wise
Cucumber, cut in sticks
Fresh ripe mango, slice vertically and scoop out
Washed lettuce
Japanese mayonnaise (I use Kewpie brand)
Prepared wasabi (hot/spicy Japanese condiment of horseradish and mustard mix)
Homemade or bottled herb vinaigrette, optional dressing (I use Gourmet's brand)

For the wasabi-mayo:
Mix 1 part prepared wasabi + 2 parts Japanese mayo (1:2)
(Or you can do 1:3 if you want the spice to be mild.  Adjust proportion according to your taste.)

To prepare:
Lay tortilla flat on a board and spread some wasabi-mayo mix on the center
Layer 2 - 3 lettuce leaves over the wasabi-mayo, which acts as a glue
Add more wasabi-mayo over the lettuce and assemble all the filling on top
Carefully flip lower end of the tortilla over the filling and roll over tight
Wipe some mayo on the top edge of the tortilla to act as glue and secure your roll-up

You can make as many rolls as you want. 1 roll is good for 1, or maybe not enough! =) Press together and hold 2 or 3 rolls and, with a sharp knife, carefully slice into 6 or 8.

A perfectly balanced combination of juicy kani, crisp and cool lettuce and cucumbers, spicy dressing, sweet and succulent mangoes, all wrapped in soft and chewy tortilla.

You can use more of the wasabi-mayo as dipping sauce -- it tastes fantastic with that extra kick!  I forgot to add some nori strips with the filling though, and for sure, it would have added another dimension to the flavor of this refreshing salad roll-up.

Serve on a bed of lettuce, with extra dressing on the side. Dip or drizzle before you pop a slice in your mouth.  A drizzle of the herb vinaigrette adds some tang to the sweet-cool-spicy taste. But you can just stick with the wasabi-mayo for extra creaminess.

I always loved the combination of sweet mangoes and kani! With the tortilla, I now have a more filling alternative to the usual kani salad that I often prepare with our dinner.  This kani salad roll-up is great as appetizers too, or served as hors d'oeuvres during parties.  Try this perfect summer salad roll-up  now!
